What Championship for a 172 Cup Racer?

  Race/Rally Clio 172
What is a good Championship to run my 172 Clio Cup Racer this year? I fancied the TinTops but not allowed in with the box!

Team Trophy isnt run like a championship is only round by round, heard that the DMN has so bad driving standards and Britcar take the Pi** on entry fees!

Many thanks in advance!

Just been looking at Cannons Tin Tops and your allowed to run the box but get moved up a class! I need to do a test to see how my times will compare to last years to see if id be in the mix at the front or not to bother!

Ill be racing this year not hillclimbs so much effort for maybe 3 or 4 mintues of motorsport haha

  Cup In bits
There is a dedicated championship for them iirc, Timmyevo iirc runs his in one, I cant remember the name now though.

QMN anything goes so I'd forget that, you will be driving round the back in a cup racer for sure.

My dad raced in cannons tin tops for years before paddock politics and the committee drove us away. He races a r5 gt turbo and we got pushed out of the series for being too quick yet the next season 50k's worth of mk2 focus rs turn up along with pug 205s with 15k engines. We went back this year in an invitation class and had good races with the focus and 205s but we never felt part of the club that we supported since tintops begun. The driving standards are never policed properly and unfortunately damage is far too common.

I could go on all day about cannons tin tops but most of it shouldn't be said on a forum.

I think QMN and tintops are combining next year anyway but im not 100% sure on that.

We now race in project 8 racing saloons which is fantastic but sequential gearboxes are not allowed.

A clio would be competitive but I wouldn't recommend the series. They don't travel too far from the south east either but that may or may not be good to you.

Nice little tap from a very wide Focus at 8min.

I always think driving standards is very important, worth paying more where it's policed strictly. Our series has very little damage throughout the year.

It was a little tap but those focus's are very tough and heavy and quite a lot of damage was done to the rear quarter. Nothing was said or done about it.
Didn't even get an apology from the driver which is quite sad really.

I completely agree, where we race now its very strict but its better for everyone that way.

What do you run in Tony? Cannons Tin Tops states in their regs Transmission:
5.9.1 Permitted modifications
1. Differential and gearbox are unrestricted providing that they remain in the original location within
5cm.
2. Sequential gearboxes are permitted provided an original equipment factory fitted option for the
make and model of vehicle, any vehicle equipped with a sequential gearbox shall move UP one
class.

Could try and blag it as was an optional extra if you bought a complete car from Renault.

Maybe if they loosened the regs slighlty they would get a few more entrys! Or would this upset people in the class the Clio would go into?

Dont really want to go QMN as ive heard so many bad stories about driving standards and i want to progress up from TrackTeam Day/Team Trophy, did really well in the Britcar Night race with a podium in my mates Clio 200 and the driving there was very clean evenwith bad rain and being night time!

Shame looking at the Cannons TT calender got a great set of tracks!! QMN just uses Lydden and Brands mainly!

If you could run with the other 2.0 cars then I'm sure you would have good races and be competitive. A good mix of cars in that class with 197/200's on itbs and civic type R's typically the class winning cars. If you go up a class you would be with that focus and that silver escort in the vid I posted. You will defiantly have a good battle on track tho regardless of class.

Only trouble with loosening the regs is the QMN cars will drop back into tintops and all sorts of monster cars could come out. When tintops first begun a 100% standard toyota celica bar safety gear and coilovers won the championship 3 times and was winning races. The cars have already come a long way in only a few years. You Don't want tintops turning into the new QMN where anything is allowed. My dad did a few dmn rounds and being on track with cars doing 48's round brands isn't fun.

You're in such a difficult position, great car but no where to race it.

Our regs defo don't need this, we have full grids every race anyway.

The CSCC championship looks a good race series. I was marshalling at Oulton last year when they were there and it was good days entertainment. Tony and Jay's Burpspeed Clio is very competitive and did really well on the day I saw them racing.
