What does setting up Coilovers consist of?

  Breaking A 172 Replica
As above.

If I were to fit some brand new coilovers what would I need to pay someone to do? What processes need to carried out to "set them up"?

Thanks

Sam

Setting up usually entails hight adjustment, camber adjustment, then tracking. :)

height adjustment is important, if you don't know what you're doing you can get it badly wrong

caster isn't adjustable on clios

camber and toe are

caster can be adjusted on high end coilovers but bepends what he has got

not on any clio kit to my knowledge

corner weighting is adusjting the heights at each corner so the weight is splint perfectly between the wheels

for example

in standard from

front weight split

FL 300kg FR 380kg

RL 270kg RR 280kg

you can corner weight the car with the drive on board so the weight split is perfect

FL 325kg FR 325kg

RL 275kg RR 275 kg

if that maes sense

So that's why I always have a tendancy to lock the front left first when threshold braking? 80kgs less pushing down?

How's it balanced Fred? Ballast or suspension adjustments?

can be done both ways....but set up of the susp is the best way to sort it.

makin n/s/r slightly higher to drop n/s/f etc iirc

How is camber adjusted, Fred?

I just had to replace both front tyres cos the inner shoulders
were scrubbed down to the wire.

I'm thinking this could be the camber.
I can picture, as the car is lowered, the wheels arcing up into the
wheel well, presenting a contact patch, biased on the inner shoulder?

Am I right? Or hallucinating?:D

not always camber at fault, could also be excessive toe settings

camber can be adusted with camber bolts, or if you have elongated bolt holes in your struts

timo, erm our guys setup these all day long http://www.ebsracing.com/997GT3RSR01.jpg
but i'm not sure if that means we're good enough for the humble renault ;);)

Cheers Fred, I had the tracking done and it was toe-ing out
or in quite badly, so I was told. I'll give it a few weeks and see how the wear is coming
on and maybe get back to you.

Cheers

Its also down to the fact you have a longer brake pipe from the master cylinder to the slave(s) on the N/S, so more of a pressure drop and effectively less clamping force compared to the O/S for the same pedal force.
