What Fuel

What Juice are you using?

Been using 97 but was thinking about trying the optimax. Is there much diff between the two. There is certainly a considerable diff between 95 and 97 - (dad filled my Cup up with 95 the other day by misstake)!

Mate with a Scoob WRX (old style), tried the optimax a few moths back and it didnt agree with the car. Was mega pinkin - so he now sticks with 97.

Ive used optimax from day one an on the odd occastion when Ive used super my 172 doeant always start first time from cold and stalls when pulling away after reversing where normally on optimax its seems to have a bit more power low down

Tried optimax (for 500 miles). Waste of money.

Cost 7p a litre more for no performance enhancement (seemed less responsive), and 2mpg less. Normally get 33mpg, optimax took it down to 31.

Engine was a little quieter, but then anyone with an induction kit doesnt care about that.

Went back to whatever Safeway sell as their unleaded. This is just my opinion.

Loads of debate on here about optimax etc. Ive stopped using super and optimax, and havnt noticed any real power decrease. I reckon its all about perceived value: if you spend more money on your fuel you think the fuel is going to better and make your car perform better. From what ive been told, unless your ECU can learn the change in octane then your never going to see any real difference in performance. My ecu cant learn so ive gone back to 95 ron.

Theres so many threads on this...

Optimax cleans your engine and keeps it that way. That would be all the justification i need. People should stop seeing it is as a performance enhancer.

The in-depth CCC article on the Clio 16V and development of the Williams claims that using 98ron fuel is equivalent to adding 5bhp - but thats the first Ive heard of it and havent experienced it myself while using it.

I just go for the best quality fuel I can at the time.

optimax gives me better mpg so it makes up for the diff in price, also i can notice a slight difference in performance,in the engine pick up especially, idles better as well, cheapo super market stuff still runs ok but idles lumpy and as someone said above sometimes wont start first time if hot!!??
