what gearbox 172 02 plate? speedo drive or?

need a 2nd hand gearbox to buy on ebay , how can i check which box i need, think some one said mines speedo drive? its 02 2002 black 172 and cable clutch by the looks, a few on ebay now ?

is it out of a cup or 172?

My 172 (02) non cup has the speed sensor on the gearbox. some from the same year don't have it.. you need to check for yourself really..

if you did buy one from a cup...

to get the speedo working you would need to connect the car up to "clip"
and change the speedo source,

not that big of a deal but an extra cost added on...

just go out and see if the black speedo drive is there...
way easier then buying the wrong part

you should be able to see it without removing anything

the early ph2 came with one type and the later 2002 came with another

My old 172 had the sensor in the back of the gear box, 02reg 172

It seems that it's little more complicated than that. Don't spose you can shed any light on the exact procedure? I have changed the source in the Clip, but it no work. Have a car sitting waiting for a gearbox change so I'd really appreciate any insight!
