What is the 4k rattle

Ok, at the risk of annoying a lot of people, what exactly is the 4k rattle?

I have looked at previous posts and read all the feedback , but im not clear what i am meant to be listening out for! is it an obvious sound you cant miss.

I do get the "tinging" sound from the exhaust when parking up and switching the engine off, but i think this is normal.

Also does anyone else get this, pull up to some lights, handbrake, nuetral. wait for the green light, clutch down , gear .. then get a clunking noise.. dosent do it every time, but quite often..

Oh and my clio is a MK2 172 and done about 6k now.

Open your bonnet, get someone to run the engine up to around 4500rpm. Youll hear a really loud rattle coming from behind the engine - you cannot possibly miss it. If you dont get this you dont have the rattle. The tink tink noise is just contraction - its normal.

If you get a clunk while pulling off thats a loose gearbox mounting - its under the battery. Your dealer will tighten it up.

Id say its more of a buzzing rather than rattling noise, mine happened only at 4000rpm and sounded like an angry wasp in a tin can.

after taking the original exhaust off the other day i took a good look at the centre section and noticed it had a large crack across it, its possible that this could be what caused the 4k rattle on my car.

Mid section of the exhurst, RB_172 solved his by tightening everything up!
