What is this on the rear beam?

Ive been fitting new pads and disks on the rear today which gave me a chance to have a proper look at the underneath of the car(not had it long). I noticed this little rod wasn't secured(it had actually popped out of the hole I just put it back in before the picture). I can only guess that maybe it attaches to a sensor for the ESP or something?

Whatever it is I'll need to refit it which I assume means buying a new clip or rod?

Any help greatly appreciated cheers.

It adjusts your headlight aim dependant on the height of the rear axle.

More weight pitches the car this counteracts that and changes the headlight aim accordingly.
