What is wrong with my 182?

Hey Everyone,

I have had over 11,000 miles of happy motoring until this morning on the way to work.... Going up a ver slight hill and the car stutters and appears to be mis-firing and I was struggling to get it to accelerate.
When I dropped it a gear it seems to pull a little better but feels seriously under power (I drive up this road every day). What could be wrong?

the car is due a service in about 800 miles so will that help? Oil level are ok (I checked yesterday) and the engine sounds fine. The only thing I could think of is that fact its been wet and windy and perhaps some water has got into the electrics?

dont know mate tbh... probably best to book it int with renault, especially whist its due a service. Did any warning lights come on on the dash???

Si - Yeah it idles fine. I have only been doing short journeys recently, could it be that the battery is getting flat?

Mine did this once ages ago but corrected itself within 30 seconds, lost all power and coughed and spluttered before picking up again, I thought it had slipped into limp mode. Not much help I know.

air filter soaked? happen to a mate of mine last week going on motorway in pissing rain and his air filter got soaked through and clogged - prob not this but just an idea

Mine did exactly the same the other week. Only ever done it once, and none of my other Clios have ever done it.

i know whats up we yr car. water is getting into the oxygen sensor wiring under the car. it shorts the ecu out and wont revup. mine where doing it as well took me ages to figure it out

Well after driving it home tonight it seems to be very poorly

I tried to nail in in 2nd and it took ages to build up the revs and struggled to go above 5k rpm!!! I am calling the garage tomorrow and going to book it for them to look at it and also have my 12k service.

might not be it but the same happened on an old daewoo i had, tried to boot it and it had no go and the revs didnt seem to climb, got my mechanic friend out and he was baffled, turns out the backbox had caved in, only notiuced coz it looked like a cats tail was hanging out the pipe, check that back box mate, or the cat or could be a faulty sensor(oxygen or lambda)

Just phoned Renault and they are fitting me in at 10.30 am tomorrow to look at this problem and also service my car!

Service is going to cost £216 after a bit of haggling (includes parts, labour and VAT).

Hopefully they can fix her

216 for a 12k service that the highest i have ever seen...! 130 from my local Renault garage. Ask Blink as he gets his done for similar money..!

For future reference, phone total butler and ask for deborah. Should be able to get 24lts of elf fully synth for under £80 delivered. Bearing in mind renault charge £40+ for 4.5lts

12K Service at Sunwins Preston is about £130 , where the f*ck do they get £216 for a 12k service from ?


Sounds like coil (s) or plugs to me . Had to change mine on my old 172 at 30k , so much for 72k plug change eh .

Hope ya get it sorted and its not too expensive , but then again its in a Renault garage

All the main dealers around Birmingham and the surrounding area are over £200 for the 12k service on a 172/182. Renault set a guide price as far as I know. Any cheaper and they can't be doing the full service.

Right, just phoned the other Oxford dealership - They want £230 for the 12k service.

I just dont understand why some are so cheap and some (round here) are so expensive. Nevermind, I would rather have a working car

As said, providing your own oil brings down the cost a great deal.
