What needs to be declared? (Insurance)

Not 100% sure on this so any advice would be great. Basically, whats the general rule for declaring things on insurance.

For example, I've just bought a strut-brace, do I need to declare this and pay up for a "mod"?

If so, where do you draw the line? Are direct-replacement parts (i.e. performance panel filters) ok?

Technically you need to declare EVERY non-std part. But as a general rule you will get away with a panel filter and such things as brake pads etc.

Anything else get on the phone. A strut brace definitely needs declaring as if you take a smack on one side, they will want to know how the f**k the damage got caused to the other side!

I would declare everything, to the point that the person at the other end of the phone starts banging their head on the desk and crying... lol

I'd even declare if I'd changed my badges or side indicators to clear ones, simply because most things make bugger all difference and I'm not having the thieving b******s that are insurance companies getting out of paying on some tiny technicality! lol

They might want to charge an "admin fee" (gits. lol) so I do a few mods at a time and ring up so they can't try to get me lots of times on that front.

re: brakes, Admiral told me that the only thing that would require changing the insurance was a change from standard disks! So you could run racing pads, fail to stop and they'd still pay out... LoL

Will do then, going to colour code it at some point so I will wait until I get my next mod (Hillpower IK probably) and fit it all at once.

Every non-std part except cup packs? ;)

^^^ you're taking a risk not declaring cup packs. I was on the phone for nearly 2 hours yesterday and ended up cancelling a Bell policy and moving back to direct line because of cup suspension pack

I would tell them about the cup packs tbh. If you explain that it is a factory fit option you should not have a problem. If you do, get a decent insurance co / broker who knows what you are talking about.

what about if you played stupid with them about the cup packs and say that you didnt know there was a difference between the two lol
