What next to get 150bhp

  ExigeV6|Q5|DS3|Fiat

My target is 150bhp. I currently have 141bhp from decat/exhaust.

Will a simple chip get me the extra 9bhp or will i need extra engine components.....what about a pbv as well...? Obviously wanna get the car to 150bhp with not too much expence......can it be done without serious mode like cams?

cams arent really serious work.........but the benefits without proper setting up and re-mapping are quite small.

PBVs dont do much except increase baseline fuel presure with a rising rate. SO, only really give s you any benefit IF your runing lean at any point, and has the risk of running overly rich if not setup....its a crude method and better left for turbos.

Chips and re-maps can give better drivability but they only really adj ignition timings and injector fueling....so, there is limited scope and increases in power arent that high.

I would always go for heawork to increase flow (without reducing velocity) over the entire lift range. Ond cost wise, 350 quid is amuch as youll spend on all the intake exhaust mods etc and will probably give more for your buck. And it still leaves scope for more when you add more on........

But thats just me.....

Mine is just below 150 with BMC CDA, magnex decat and back and BB Tuning chip. Figure quoted from their RR and not at wheels so without taking it to another RR at wheels cannot say what it is.

Chip definately worthwhile as overall driveability is better but depends on whether you are gonna mod any more as chip is set up to mods. Best got last. Would get head done as you can always then get cams and chip later. Chips seem to be £250 now anyway other than Hillpowers.

Aaron

Id look at a chip mate, and also a pbv. When i fitted my pbv i noticed immediate gains. Very easy to set up roughly right. Then have the chip and the pbv set up on a rolling road. Your getting good figures from yours so with those bits your gotta be looking more like the 148-150 mark.

for those bits and rr set up your only looking at a max of £400.00. So it aint big money.

I was considering one but the 16v one is v good as it is. Not really worth the £300+ pricetag...! May as well put it towards some nice cams!

that was the largest tube i could get my hands on. Still was too long so a nice disk box taped on the end made it fit nicely. Had to bend it slightly though. Yeah send it back in the same. I sent u a cheque for £4 but it only cost me about £2 so send it recorded mate please if you would!

Cheers

PBV = power boost valve, lets more fuel in.
but does the engine want/need more fuel?

youll end up chuking it out the exhaust and get high HCs

If PBV is to let more fuel in, I supose its the same has FSE (gives more constant fuel pressure on the rail. Dependes on the max pump delivery). no?

BenR is right.

You can only generate more power if you have a certain amount of fuel/air. The only time you need more fuel for more power is when you have already too much air.

You have to compensante both air with fuel.

Some engine tunners say that max power is achived with a slight rich mix thou.

Give it a try, but remember that fuel is not the only answer!!!

a PBV is made by FSE.....

its a rising rate regualtor i.e. baseline pressure increases and decreases with manifold vacuum. not really usefull unless it run leas at high rpm.

best A/F ratio is 14.7:1.....

YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MUCH AIR! LOL

and cinstant baseline fuel pressure is kinda neccesary, if it fluctuated in std form, it would suck.
