what refresh rate should a 17 in tft be?

Mine (18.1") say 60hz.

Not sure it matters much with TFT to be honest but go with the highest your monitor can support. I think most support up to 75.

you should always try to have the highest possible refresh rate. 60 - 70 is the most on the majority of tft's. For games is even more important as everything happens to quickly

It doesn't matter with LCDs as they don't refresh in the same way as a CRT. My games machine runs 1680x1050 @ 60Hz and it doesn't flicker at all.

What monitor is that??? My current 21" philips and my previous 21" iiyama both could only manage 1600 x 1200 at 85hertz max.

You running widescreen then, Roy? Do most of the games run ok with it, or do they get a little squashed up or streched out?
