What sdrt of noise from a de-cat

Putting a de-cat on at the weekend, got a s/s backbox and a piper-x airfilter. Will this be very loud or VERY LOUD.

Been told the car sounds like an airplane taking off as it is.

Think its about 3 1/2 inch, but an oval shaped one.

Looks crap tbh but hey, I paid for it so Ill have to live with it.

put my de-cat on at the weekend, i reckon its given me a louder but smoother sound if you know what i mean.

Picks up much better at low revs thow.... it ace!

Mine a home made jobbie - no silencing at all!!

what differences in noise do you get if you put a silenced or unsileced decat on a standard valver exhaust system?

Havent got a digi camera mate, its just a peice of pipe found laying around with the correct fitments welded to it either end.

I didnt make it. Didnt cost me anything either!

my silenced cat is a 3.5" internal diameter pipe with a larger external pipe which tappers down to the flanges at the ends! pretty simple and a piece of p!?s to fit.



i wouldnt say its all that silenced in sound though

Ok new problemo, do I need any sort of gaskett to fit the pipe as it doesnt seem like a very good idea to bolt the metal to metal, surely itll blow and rattle like hell?

i put exhaust putty bettween the joints. It sets once the exhaust gets hot!

Let it tick over for 10 mins or so, go back to it a just check to see if there is fumes leaking!

Hi.. Ok, so ive decided to de-cat my Mk 1 16v, but any ideas where i can get the de-cat from.? I believe Magnex do one, but cant find anywhere to buy it (or a cheaper alternative) from. Any suggestions much appreciated.
