what shall i do....

  clio 182
will try keep this short...

i want to do track days and hopefuly get into hillclimbs in the future, so my plan was sell the clio and buy a track prepared 106/saxo/205.

in the past few weeks though i have been having some awful thoghts about turning the 182 into a track car!!

my 182 has cruise control, full leathers, automatic wipers and lights etc etc but the bodywork aint too great. deep scratch in the drivers door and damage on the same door right at the bottom thats pretty bad(was on a four poster ramp with the door open, mechanic lowered ramp, door met tool box....) and the front bumper and bonnet are slightly damaged due to the local minister not being able to reverse!!

so.....if i were to sell i would need to fix all of the above(have cash waiting as in both cases the offenders gave me the cash after i got a quote to repair from the bodyshop) which is a pain in the ass, then source and buy a new car, or keep the clio, rip all the fancy bits off and use the cash i have for fixing the bodywork on some nice track based modifications??

so wat would you do? keep it or sell it? and would the interior, cruise control etc be things people with less spec'd clios be willing to buy?

i love working on cars and building cars so the effort in changing the clio to track car isnt a problem. also the clio already has coilovers, full yozza sport including decat panel filter and a remap

cheers

Keep an eye out for some bargains with track prepped cars as they go for good money often as you wont be paying the full price of the mods.

If you dont see anything come up, id keep the 182! You will always be able to sell the bits and bobs to people!

i wish i had made my mind up!

it just seems alot of car to take to bits!

i no others have done this on here so did you guys manage to sell all the spares?

  Maybe a 172 Cup..
First thing I would do mate, is try and do a few track days in the 182. Not only will you learn so much about your car, but you'll probably decide how far you want to go.

My plans were to get a phase 1 and strip it for track days. But am now considering just keeping it std, stripped a little maybe, but something I can still use everyday, and then perhaps do a couple of trackdays a year, which wouldn't imo justify a total change to car...

  53 Clio's & counting
Ph1, Ph2, 182, it doesnt really matter mate, if your happy with the 182 and enjoy it then keep it, modify it but keep the standard bits and then if you want to sell put it back to standard.

Remember its a Clio not a Bentley ;)

Why do you have to strip everything to do track days?

How much much of an affect on lap times do you think it will have?

I'm not saying don't strip, I'm just curious as to how much of a diffence it makes.

With the standard of driving 99.99999% of people are at, (I'm including myself in that!!) no difference at all. Which is why I've now decided against it.

That's what I thought!

Stick in a set of buckets and harnesses so you're more secure but there is no point in removing the ac etc IMO.

the plan to strip the car is because i plan on doing hillclimbs as well once i am confident in the car. the car will be used as a weekend car also so the comforts arent a problem!

im seriuosly tempted to just keep the 182, saves hassle i suppose.....anyone want some lovely leather interior??:rasp:
