Whats Mk CLio do you have?
The Mk2 phase 1's of your engine size run the 239mm disks
The Mk2 phase 2's of your car run 259mm disks.
Both setups run the same caliper pads and i suspect calipers is the caliper mounting brackets which allow the caliper to be spaced further out.
Both disk size are fine upgrading to bigger pads is a waste IMO. They do look better.
Theres no maximum size though Ktec do a 285mm conversion with drill disk but there no better than standard when you use them hard them still fade away they do have more bite from cold just that they heat up. (They do look nice though)

The best upgrade is to the Mk2 phase 2 setup its the same as the Williams/1.8 16v/ all none RS Mk2 phase 2 cars use so any breaker will have a car in you need the claiper bracket and accoriding to some people the caliper as well but I'm not convinved. Then you'd need the new disks and pads.
With the bigger disk setup go get some Ferodo normal pads from Halford there £17.99 and perfect I use them on track all the time in my car without trouble just make sureyou stick some good brakes fluid in the expensive stuff at halford is £11 a liter which is what I use and its great. The only time I ever had trouble was at Bnedford but the brakes needed bleeding before hand and Bedford is very hard on brakes worse than Oulton or the ring. If you do want some more stopping power try the DS2500 pads there £50 or so from Demon Tweeks etc and they squeek from cold but they do give a bit more bite.

You know i was going to PM you edde but couldnt see you name on the members list :D...yeah its a mk2 phs 2, so i can run 259mm discs without uprating my caliper or caliper mounting bracket?? It'll just be a straight swap??

Humm it should be there.

Anyway if you have a Mk2 phase 2 then you already have the 259mm diska as standard.
Best upgrade then is new disks and DS2500 pads and bleed the setup with some good fluid.
If you want any more then change the lines for braided lines.
If you have any trouble with that setup then something more serious is wrong.

Basically i have 17" alloys and want to fill them more....is there no option without spending loads of money??

  172 cup'd extreme
you may have the 239mm solid disk on there check if its a solid or vented disk, if its the vented you can buy a 280mm upgrade kit from k-tec that will fill your alloys a bit more

If you want big brakes, you gotta spend big money, and on a 1.2 I wouldn't bother. But if you're dead set on it, you can fit StopTech on anything 17" and more. It will cost you though.
