What the hell is that noise?

The other day when it was snowing, driving over to some friends house, turned in their road, completely untreated road surface. Doing about 5mph, i applied the brake, naturally the car slid and the ABS tried to do something about it. But obviously it couldn't recover the slidding wheels. Then, what can only be described, as a groaning sound came from the left front, it was quite load too?? :S

What the hell is it??

not a abs related noise i assume?

The ABS will cut off at very low speeds usually below 5mph.

It was really wierd, it only occured when the car was slidding.
