has any one suffered the same problem when thrashing their 172.I was driving down the M23 today when all of a sudden the car starts spluttering(similar symptoms to running out of petrol).I was thinkin faulty fuel gauge but it couldn't be as i had filled it up earlier.But did notice after a quick look under the bonnet that the air feed was nowhere in line to the piperx induction in kit so the engine wasn't gettin enough cold air.Could this cause such a thing?

Unusual as if you were thrashing then the wind would be howling in one way or the other and supplying some air for the filter to suck in at least, bear in mind a 50+ mph wind is darned cool!
Blocked filter? Something stuck in the inlet feed? Sounds more like plug breaking down under load?
