I would recommend the TomTom One, got a good built in loud speaker, you can connect it to your mobile via bluetooth to download traffic data only, easy to use, got all the features you need, it has got improved battery time, it also has the latest sirf star 3 chipset which makes it very sensitive, i can get a signal in the house away from the window, you can also get a signal behind a heat reflecting windscreen, if you do need a external antenna it has got the mini mcx socket, so you do not need the more expensive re-radiating antenna like the go range.

Have a look at kelkoo or pricerunner, comet, currys, pcworld sometime knock em out cheap, i got one at Argos just before christmas for £223 plus i got a £10 gift voucher back, but i think you will be paying nearer £250 now.

If you want a speed cam database download it here - http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/uksafetycameras.php

This one is the most comprehensive database i have found, but this is the last version that is free to download as it has become time and money consuming for them, i think it will be £2 a month subsciption or £19 for the year to download the database.

What is the difference between the tom tom one and the 300 etc, am thinking of getting one myself?

TT1 is slightly smaller and less bulky.
I think it looks nicer.
Got a faster processor than 300.
Has got Sirf Star 3 chipset 20 channel gps receiver(very sensitive).
Cheaper.
Better battery life.
Accepts a mini mcx patch/external antenna(if you need it), go needs more expensive re-radiating antenna.

M8, buy a nokia N70, and a 1gig momory card, and a gps reciver(£30) the tom tom programme can be put on it with all the updates which you can buy off ebay for a fiver, it works exactly the same as the sat navs u buy, with all the voice alerts and speed trap warning, but if u get the phone on contract its cost u f all. Plus you always take ur phone with u so u dont have to wory about hidding it in the car.

Lol why did i not mention that my set up is a Orange SPV C500 smartphone, 256mb mini sd card running TT5 software, using a Globalsat BT 318 GPS receiver.

I also run Trafficmaster software on my phone, £39 annual suscription, 2 - 3 pence per data download using GPRS.

The next gadget i want has a GPS receiver built into the phone, touchscreen, and more computing power than some laptops.

I want one and was going to buy a TT 700 or TT One in the next few days. But I did some Googling to find the best one and then found out the new TT Go range is launched sometime in May so I think I'll hang on for that and get the 510 or 910. Its got bluetooth handsfree, bigger screen (4" 16:9), text-to-speech(910 only) and 'safety cameras' all as standard... plus an i-pod option, too!

Hi

Just got the 510, works perfect without any external arial. The safety camera's is well misleading though. Yes it comes with them, but that's it, no free updates or anything, you still need to subscribe if you want anything more than the set when it was built.

Still, it's only £25 yr to subscribe.

Best wishes
Neil

I have tom tom 1. I like it. Does the job well. Although it did try and take me up a footpath once.

Oh and i got mine from PC World. I went into Currys first next door to PC world and found out that PC world had it like £10 cheaper. All I had to do was walk to PC world, which I did obviously!

Tomtom is a pile of w**k, it will one day, when it's important not to be late, send you in the wrong direction. I recommend the Garmin series for external GPS units, it's not let me down yet.

why go for the 700...... the 500 does exactly the same stuff but cheaper. :)

700 has remote and does all roads in Europe.. not just major ones ;)

700 also has a small hard drive, as opposed to the SD card :D

  Golf GTI 1.8T
and a slightly faster processor but from using them, they are slower than my 500 and my mates 300. spose they are worth it if you are looking to use it outside the UK but otherwise really who needs a remote :S

  CS Dungeon
I have the road angle navigator and its yet to let me down.

30 second cold starts, has never missed a camera and looks loads better then the TT's :)
