What would you choose???

Just wondering what everyone else would choose if they were in my position...
(I currently have a mk2 ph2 1.2 clio)

I have got three ideas in my mind:
- This summer, sell the 1.2 and get a 182
- This summer, get a ph1 172 and track it, keeping the 1.2 also (sort of like a project for myself)
- Save up and next summer, order a brand new 200 with all the trimmings ;)

(The third is my preferred option as id have a brand new car and it would be pure sex, but just wondered what everyone would do)

  Crappy work hire car
4th option - save up and get a nearly new 200 so you don't lose thousands the minute you drive it off the forecourt :D

  B/G 182 + PH1 Track
Really depends on what you want out of the car.

Seems odd that youve put track the PH1 172 but not track the 182 or the 200? do you want to get in to track days or not?

200 s are nice but dont get in to debit ect.

Or buy a 182 trophy or a Vee if you want something a bit more special

Save up and get a 2nd hand 200 so depreciation doesn't kill you.

Only thing is, if I get a 200, I want it new so im the only owner and so I can ensure I have it with exactly all the extras that I want. If I got new, id be keeping it for a looong time, so depreciation wouldnt really bother me tbh!

The reason for that is id use a track car just for that, and keep my 1.2 as a daily.
If I got a 182, I wouldnt want to modify it for track due to the day to day running costs. Same with the 200, if I spend £17k+ I wouldnt want to be ragging the feck out of it!
I do love 182 Trophys and if I get a 182, thats what id be looking at (or a LY)... And I love the LY Vee's even more so, but as im only 21 in June, I think insurance will rape me a bit too much, whereas id be able to afford a 2.0l insurance.

  B/G 182 + PH1 Track
Get a 182, Run decent brakes on it, get a set of 15inch wheels with some decent tyres on for track.

Running a Track car and keeping your 1.2 will be more expensive, than occasionally tracking you 182 on track.
But it depends how serious you are about track driving. You can have just as much fun in a standard RS on track as you can in a fully Track prepped one, just depends if the Track bug bites.

I'd go for a mint 182. To be honest i'd be looking at Trophys. As Bazzon said, get 15's for cheap tyres and a slightly better drive, decent brakes and spend the rest on consumables.

Sorry but buying any brand new Renault Sport is lunacy.

Let someone else drive it over the hill of depreciation

Im in exactly the same boat with similar plans, id go for 172 or 182 in the summer and have that as your daily car. 4get the track option for a while, unless you can deff afford?

Spec'd up second hand 197 or 200 when you can afford it!

This is the only way i would go.

How much would you have after seeling the 1.2 to buy a 182 out of interest?

Dont get the 200 cos youll be too scared to use it.
Id wait till the insurance is a bit easier to chew so keep the 1.2 for now and keep saving.
In a year or 2 the 200 will be worth about 11k youll have the cash to snap one up with out being in too much debt.

By this summer im hoping to have about £7-8k in savings + sale of the 1.2 (Plus its my 21st in June, and my brother for his got a verrrry nice sum from one of those trust fund things so im hoping i get the same also ;) )

Also reasoning for going for a brand new 200 next summer is because I finish Uni around that time, so I want to get a brand new car before I have to start thinking about buying a house etc and therefore a new car is put to the bottom of the queue.

Buy 182 and then buy a ph1 172 to track?

I was going to do this and keep the 182 standard but since i missed out on a cheap ph1 I just decided to start doing stuff to mine. Plan is now to keep mine when i change cars in the future and then strip it out totally as i wont need a practical car.

Theres 2 other options :)

Not on your list but I would suggest get a ph1 172 learn to drive properly on road and do a couple of track days like you said, learn to maintain and about fuel costs etc then get your 200, will lose hardly any money on ya ph1 and you'll be able to handle and care for your new car.

If you want to spend all your money then look at the Trophy and hope you can sell it on without too much depreciation when you're done. Look at the price of the PH1 and PH2 172, they're pretty low and the 182 then 197 then 200 will go the same way. You're obviously at the start of your car ladder and intend to climb up... is a low mileage 182 really worth the extra over a mid mileage 172 if you're throwing bits at it anyway?! (canoworms there!) Just something to consider!

I've run specific track cars and it's worth doing if you do it properly and have the budget, but if you're only doing a half hearted track car or only intend on going on track a handful of times a year then a set of wheels with track rubber, a seat and harness, etc. to put on/in your daily would be my recommendation!

:)

Thats a good idea tbh, im going to have alook at what the insurance costs are for if I get a ph1 in march when my current insurance runs out (or in june when i turn 21) ..
They are cheap to get hold of aswell arent they, if anyones got one they may want to sell in a few months let me know please :D

Get a 197, the others are both fugly

Bimey. It took 18 posts before someone said 197 :S. The 197 is miles better than the 1*2, unless you are utterly die hard. It is also better than most people's driving ability so you wouldn't notice the difference in driving a 200 in the real world and will be £1000s cheaper than a 200.

No brainer really.
