Whats happened to car insurance ?

  Skoda Fabia vRS
heard on the radio recently its been going up the last few months

mines due for renewal in about 6 weeks, so decided to have a look

last year i paid about £750, with my cheapest quote being from a comparison site of about £640 but monthly payments, courtesy car, legal cover etc are all extra plus some of the companies have sprung up over night so i stayed with Adrian Flux who matched my best 'proper' quote which was Direct Line

just done a quote on Direct Line and now they want £1300 !........and the best on the comparison sites is £870, this is despite now having an extra years no claims, and now not having to declare any penalty points which ive had to in the past

anyone elses shot up ?

i realise they try to put it up on you every year and usually you just tell them you can get it cheaper here, here, and here, etc and they drop the price, but this year seems different, seems everyone is gonna be more expensive than last year esp if i want to go with a proper company

Mine didn't shoot up this year, but I only managed to save about £20 on last year. Still a saving mind you.

I insured my tt for £560 last year (not bad for a 23 y/o!) and it's gone up to £650 this year despite another year ncb

Now I want to change my car to something a bit mad (M3, Vee etc) and I have a horrible feeling I'm going to get raped :(

Mine has gone up slightly. About £100, but I have now got a crash in dispute to declare .

Mine went down by £300 this year.

Elephant actually had the cheek to send me a renewal letter saying they could insure me for the year for £2800. I LOL'd, phoned them and told them to stick it and they matched the internet price of £1700. Would have been less but I have an "incident" logged against me after some little sh*t smashed my windscreen with a golf ball.

Cheers Brun, you have just reminded me to cancel my direct debit lol
Mine is up for renewal 4th Aug so will need to get it sorted soon.
I got a reminder last month, and my monthly payment has gone down by a whopping 55 pence.... and I have just got 4 years NCB..... Time to shop around methinks

Always been with Direct Line - asked them for a quote on the BMW but because it had a stainless steel exhaust they will not insure it! at all.

Mine went down this month for renewal (£720 down to £560) so miles better for me (I did call and insisted I would leave unless it was lower than the £680 renewal notice)

Direct Line added £450 on top of my price last year. I e moved house so that could make it rise a little I guess but not by that much!

When questioned they said that "I was a young driver in a high performance car". I replied saying I was even younger last year so that doesn't make sense!!

I've found that EVERYONE has hiked up their prices this year. Cheapest I found was a 10 month policy with Elephant.

I have 5 years no claims, no points and 22.

yep, i've heard they are raping young motorists with cars they can't handle, luckily i'm an old b*****d so am not affected ;)

ours went up 10 quid a month. scandalous. probably due to the number of uninsured ethnic minorities around here.

Got my renewal through the other day with Directline and they tried raising it £200 - was paying £850 a year and they raised it to £1050, rung them up and the guy there explained that all insurance companies have readjusted premiums for drivers with recent speeding convictions or claims.....the cheapest I could find was with aviva for £830

the increase will coincide with the increase in wee 'fannies' - that think they are heros on the road these days...

personally id keep putting it up and up - thus rendering it impossible for anyone under the age of 21 to drive..

WTF? £1300 on a f**king Skoda! PMSL. You're either 12, have a ban under your belt, have smashed up every car you own and have 0 NC discount, live in Beirut or all of the above lol I suggest you get a skateboard instead ;)

Insurance premiums are definitely up! Clearly for me age isn't an issue and no circumstances have changed, but it was still up this year when went to do the two car policy for the Vee and missus' C4 Picasso. After messing around a bit, I got it down but was still £700-something in toto vs. £600-something last year. If I'd mixed things up a bit more then with Quidco I could have effectvely got it down a bit further, but in the end Admiral did enough to keep me.

Freaking claim culture and the impact of numpties who can't drive in snow!

Don't know if it'll work for you, but I got my renewal through on my old car, it went up from 800 to 900, I rang them and told them I'd found a quote elsewhere for £700ish (I hadn't) and they matched it (make sure you say you rang up x company and they gave you this better quote, don't say you got it online)

  GTD, Lupo
Some big isurance company went bust early this year and they are all scared the same is going to happen to them so quotes are going up. Think it was Prudential (sp!) or somthing like that and they got hit hard after all the snow. I struggled to match last year but skyinsurance managed it.

I had my renewal notice from Direct Line a few weeks ago which went up from £780 to just over £900, despite an extra year's NCB, never had an accident or points etc. Went back onto the Direct Line website as a 'new' customer and the quote came out at £730. Rang them up and explained that I'd got a quote almost £200 cheaper online and when asked who with, "errrr you". LOL.

The combination of snow and the investment banks losing the insurers moneys seems to have taken effect. I recently checked and mine was nearly 40% increased . Hope it changes by the time my renewal comes round

none of the above, ive had 1 car wrote off which was about 6+ years ago IIRC, you only have to declare them for 5 years at the most, ive no points, car is parked on the drive, ive got about 6 years NCB IIRC

Mines gone up each year... so annoying.

£1300 on the Clio, then £1500 on the 206 and now £1700 on the 206 lol.

Shan't be getting my 350z this year :(

  dCi 65 + C2 (<Sold)
Lol @ even contemplating a 350z when you're paying almost 2 grand on a 206.

Mine went from £340, to £430, to £900, to £450.

Doesn't bother me though, insurance is insurance. You need it. And i need some JDM in my life at the moment, feels like i'm going through a mid life crisis.

I always vowed never to spend over a grand on insurance, my highest was £900 which was my first year on a 1.1 Renault 5 campus.

Not paid over £500 for most of my driving career.

  Lupo GTI
I'm 23, i've got 5 years no claims, no points and I drive a 1.2 Clio and my insurance is still s**t due to the area I live in. :(
FAIL.

Meh, if you can afford it why not I suppose. Like DK though, I'll never spend more than a grand on insurance (can't believe I was £900 on the dCi! Fail!).
