whats the actual HP of a 182

  BMW M3

Has anyone had a rolling road test done of their standard (un-moded) 182 as one of my mates had this done to his MG 160 which gave only 140ish. This worries me as i wonder whether my 182 a lucky one of the bunch or not. The only mod my 182 has had is a "superchip", giving it somewhere in the 190s apparently....

i doubt a superchip would get 190bhp (not ps) as a full induction and race alloy exhaust on a 182 only acheived 185.1bhp at a recent BBPT RRd meet but it was 26deg so maybe 187/188hp possible on that car... still if you take the actual figure of 178/179 hp (not ps) and achieve 187/188hp on a cooler day i.e below 20deg then thats a generous 8-9hp from induction and exhaust with a custom remap of the ecu and the induction + exhaust a genuine minimum 190hp on a hot day and possibly 192hp other wise is achievable.. with a good increase in torque aswell.
but a superchip alone will only give 4hp i would imagine at max.

Yeah... i know what you mean. Was a bit sceptical myself on the supposed performance figures. The guy did show me a chip 172 rolling road chart that showed substancial increases in power/torque.

When i first got it done i thought i could notice a difference but dont notice it now... maybe just got used to it. It is however a bit smoother and driveable in town me thinks....

Here is that apparent Rolling Road Chart: http://www.superchips.co.uk/curves/cliosport.pdfhttp://www.superchips.co.uk/curves/cliosport.pdf
original bhp seems a bit high at 5hp more than stock but i guess its possible if you have a good engine but a 9hp increase is suspect as 4hp is the usual max for chip tuning..

however more concering is that on the graph it says "29hp increase" when in fact its only a claimed 9hp when really its only about 4hp if even that lol... and i may add on a engine which is supposed to put out much more power than quoted 174 instead of the usual 168hp

this of course is bull poop

I think by saying 29bhp more they mean that is the highest bhp difference at a certain stage of the rev range....

182ps = 179.510 BHP so rounded up should be 180

Renault claim 182hp so is hp (not bhp) another name for ps?

HP is PS divided by 1.0139. Therefore 182ps would be 179.5bhp. But 182bhp would be 184.5ps! 172ps is just shy 0f 170bhp.

I reckon...

PS is Pferde Starke iirc, a german equivalent of BHP

PS = 75 kg-m (542.5 ft-lb) per second of work, while 1 BHP = 550 ft-lb per second. So, 1 BHP = 1.013825 PS.

Tbh, its so little they could be considered equivalent for the figures were talking about.

Id be shocked if my 172 wasnt putting out 190+ with only a Maxogen, exhaust/de-cat a R Sport ECU (gives no peak hp gains)

lucky man but if a 182 only does 179hp that means you have 8hp over stock and probably 7lbft quite a lot if you ask me.. maybe the RR was over reading ?

most of other cars were spot on from previous rr.

was quite cold which probably helped things.
