What is offset?.. i am planning to buy some megane coupe alloy wheels, can i not just fit them on, and drive off?.. whats all this offset? and how do i change it on the car etc etc

basically, the wheels im buying are 185/60/15, and the wheels on my car at the moment are 185/55/15... would this matter?

the offset is how far the back of the wheel is from the hub I think, I know what it is in my head Im just not sure how to explain it. Lower offsets the wheels sit further from the hub and bigger offsets they sit closer.

and my alloy wheels at the moment are 185/55/15 then the ones im buying wil lfit, no matter what?.. its just the profile of the tyres that are bigger?

If its the wrong offset they may not fit. example if you had an offset ET16 they would stick out from the arches. If you had an offset of ET50 they would rub/destroy the inner arch liners.

No, 172 wheels are ET42/45 iirc. Thats why you need 5mm rear spacers to bring them out to (or close to) ET37, else they'll catch.

thanks for that, so i will need a pair of 5mm spacers then. I already have the wheels. where can i get the spacers and what size (apart fro the obvious 5mm) do i need?
