Whats this bit and should it be rusting

hey folks, yeah i will admit i know feck all bout engines...car is in this week to have a few probs sorted out but before it does i would be grateful if someone could confirm what this bit is and should it be showing signs of rust after 4-5 months?

im no mechanic or anything mate, but in my opinion that is nothing at all to worry about, it aint proper rust, its more like weathering, get this on all new cars, if you look under the car some of the suspension parts are probably the same, nothing to worry about.

on a more serious note.....EASY TO SORT THAT OUT ....just get one of them little stone chip/rust eater bottles & brush a bit on it....that should sort it !!

Hey i was only asking as well have some problems with car, and with it only being months old i didnt know whether this was one of the parts which is meant to be covered by the anticorrision warrenty and as my post did say i know feck all engines etc.....

Hi Alymac

I have received your PM and will now give you my considered opinion.

The item in your picture which is starting to rust is an acoustic weight. It is made out of cast Iron and unfortunately will rust as Renault dont go to a great deal of trouble to paint these items.

Its NOT covered by your anti-corrosion warranty as its secondary paintwork.

It really isnt anything to worry about (just unsightly when you peer under the bonnet) but you could always repaint it with HAMMERITE if you want to tidy it up.

What other problems are you having with your car?

No rust as yet on my 6 week old Clio but there were bubbles down one side of the bonnet!!! Renault sorted it tho which I expected them to! Ive had a few other problems, like hunting around when started and then stalling later on, and a rattling sunroof (both being fixed 2moro hopefully) and a few other minor things, hopefully when these things are sorted 2moro that should be all the niggles gone!!!
