As above, I have no clue what this thing is.

It sits under the holes on the right,
there's foam under it and i'm a bit worried about it getting blocked with satin black paint.

Ah right, so if I spray the housing with satin black paint and basically block the holes with the foam behind,
will my climate control not know when it's reached the correct temperature?

climate control sensor. paint your trim bit then poke the holes back through with a small drill bit or a needle.
