whats worth more? 172 cup or 172?

The cup was there to re address the balance. The standard phase 2 was too soft compared to the phase 1. They drive keener, make better power, look better. Deal with it ;)

The cup will always be admired more by truer petrol heads/enthusiasts, it's near the last of no driver aid cars which makes the drive more enjoyable imho.

Not to say that the standard 172 is pants, it's still a very good car. Just a bit softer all round, but makes up with the luxuries. (thicker windows/nicer interior/climate control)

The cup came in the best colour (mondial blue) with the best wheels of the range also though, no ifs buys or maybes! :)

Imo the only place where the Cup has ever been worth more than a normal 172 is this place because so many people bum them on here..

Whenever I've looked on Autotrader etc over the years they go for around the same price as each other.
As for them been cheaper to maintain and less to go wrong they're hardly worlds apart. You have a slightly cheaper belt job and that's about it. All the other extra's tend to be quite reliable in the main.

Performance wise they would get from a-b on the road equally effectively. It comes down to the engine more than anything.

  172 Cup
A good example of a cup is worth more than a good example 172, as they are more sort after (good condition ones especially) and are generally rarer, its that simple ;)

The good ones have low milage as the ones who have done a few miles have seen the ditch's and curbs once or twice by people who think they can control cars better than computers.

Interesting. I came on here expecting people to bum the cups.

I've had 2 Ph1's and after a year without an RS and all sorts of disappointments, I'm definitely getting another. Want a ph2 this time tho.

So I've found a 52 Cup on 93k with dephaser and belts done. Very tidy. FSH. £1900.

or

A normal 52 plate Clio 172 with aftermarket 16s in Iceberg on 73k with belts done £1800.

Sounds like I should go for the non cup? The cup isn't THAT much hardcore then? I'd be getting Eibachs on the non cup anyway if I were to get that.

Hoping they're not much different to the ph1 and the cable throttle and clunky g/box!?

  172 cup
I'm selling a mint 172 cup with the right mods for £2500 with 10k less then that above :). Cambelt/history/Dephaser/Yozza etc.

I chose the cup over the regular models as I'd rather less electric/auto parts to go wrong, my cup has never really cost me anything out the ordinary.

sorry mate just got a cup for cheap. dephaser is definitely needed tho on it! this ones got electric trophy style recaros - he reckoned these were standard?? he reckoned they made 90 or so icebergs with recaros?

  PB Clio 172
Seats are exactly the same shame.

really? have you seen the inside of a cup before?

on another subject and yes its been on a thread before but why does everyone love the 172 cup and not the 182 cup? if the FF 182 wasnt made, would you all hate the 182 cup then ?

90 icebergs of whuch iirc 33 with aircon as iv got 1 myself

The 172 Cup had lots of changes. Suspension, wheels, glass, ABS etc. It feels different to drive.

The 182 Cup just lost good things (Xenons/Leather/Auto lights) but nothing else to make any difference. It was just marketing to get rid of the shells.

I might be wrong but the 172 cup took away all the excess and created a stiffer lighter car. The 182 cup has got all the fat plus the stiffer chassis.

Urm I don't think cups will increase in price. Same as any other rs clip, unless you've got one in mint condition with little to no mileage then itl always be a 9+ year old clio.

Almost.

It's lighter, with spiffer springs.

But it's still the same basic chassis, no extra rigidity there.

As for increasing in value. Maybe if someone had a STANDARD, zero-miler in a garage in 10 years time it'd be worth a bit.

But the kind of thing people on here own? Nah, they're just losing money everytime their turinis turn
