Wheel bearing help!!!

  Coilovered Clio Dynamique
My car is slowly chomping a wheel bearing to bits, its at the back and 2 weeks ago was pretty silent but now is getting noticable. I know it needs fixed ASAP and I will add it to my faults to fix list but is it safe enough to drive gently on it? I need the car for a 60mile a day commute to work and cant afford to fix the problem being so close to xmas! I know i will sound like a noob but how much more damage can it really cause?

Thanx

I would Have thought it could cause some serious damage! Im not too technical but this would mean you have metal grinding against metal, surely there is a chance it could overheat and cause more damage to the surrounding parts!

True, i duno, jus seems to get worse and worse, today i was on a newly surfaced road with cd player off and it sounded like the back was going to take off but 10 mins lateron a rougher road with a CD on you wouldnt notice it.

I know if it was me i wouldn't be driving it, does seem like you could lose out more in the long run if you keep driving, might be worth getting it fixed now as it may cost you alot more later!

I can't physically not drive it, might beg my dad to lend me his car but its not good not having my own car till after xmas! I need a car for work and so does my dad so i can see fights breaking out, plus I hate taking his car to work incase anything happens it! Considering going out and setting fire to the car. All going wrong at once on me!

erm it should be ok but at ur own risk mate.. drove my car for 2 weeks with it.. and was still fine.. Repair only cost like 70 in total depending if you have brake discs at the back.. but yea its fairly easy to fix and its cheap so shouldnt be much of a problem mate..

Same as above ^
I drove on mine for over a week on the last car. Obviously it will get worse as it is a bearing so the sooner you get it sorted the better :)

Ive done 3k since my wheel bearing started to get noisy. I jack it up and check it every week or so and you can hardly hear it up in the air. There is no vibration so im hoping it will get me home for christmas where i have the bits waiting to change. initially it was very quiet and now its a bit noisier.

The danger is it siezing up while moving which isnt going to be very fun. if this happens it could also snap off completely. There is more risk of this on long journeys + motorway where it could get too hot from sustained higher speeds.

They seem to get really noisy but then dont get any worse if that makes sense. I have had the same problem with my 172. The rear left bearing was making a right racket for weeks. I had it replaced last friday as warranty claim as the bearing was new in september. I dont think doing 2 track days in a week helped it much!
