Wheel bolt too tight to get off!

I need my wheel off to check something, but all the bolts except one will come off! It's too tight basically.

I can't take it to a garage as insurance and MOT have run out and I have no specialist gear, just a torque wrench.

Any ideas?

one of the members round your area must have a breaker bar they can lend you?

i would but you arent exactly local lol

btw i managed to bend my wheel brace trying to undo wheel bolts the garage had air-gunned on! not fun!

Also, Put the other bolts back in as it'll take the strain off the tight one...

Yes, this is best practice IMO; put the other bolts back in as tight as you can get them and it might hopefully take some tension off the stuck bolt.

But also as above, not sure what wheelbrace you are using, but those common telescopic ones with reversable 17/19mm socket can be extend enough to potentially strain a wheel bolt easily by hand, if not try and get some kind of tube/bar extension.

You are welcome to come and give it a go!

+1

Get abit of scaffolding on it!

More to the point, who did it to tight in the 1st place?
The whole wheel was like that, I tightened them but I don't remember doing them that tight.

I don't have the extendable type, just a long bar with socket on the end and the other end has the wrench. I've tried standing on it and putting all my weight on with no joy. If I pull any harder it'll break my bleedin' hand into pieces! :(

Gonna keep trying until it works though, so thanks for all the replies.

scaffolding bar over the torque wrench will do it no probs, but im really suprised you cant just the torque wrench on and jump on it.

Not turning it the wrong way are you lol?

LOL it feels like a I bloody am.

All the others came off with just jumping on it, but this one will not budge at all.

Is WD-40 a bad idea?

i'd try and find a suitable piece of tube to slide over the ratchet handle - must have something you can use/borrow - hollow trolley jack handle, length of exhaust tubing, metal Hoover pipe, etc etc

Some WD40 will help, also try tapping the end of the bolt with a hammer, the shock waves can help to loosen it.

Don't forget to put some copper ease grease on 'em when you put them back in, and torque them up instead of guessing.

Cheers, I don't know what torques are required/how to measure it though!

use the torque wrench that you said you had and set it to about 90NM then stop tightening when it clicks
