Wheel cleaner.

My wheels are beyond AG engine and machine cleaner... had them soaking in that today for 20 mins and hardly touched the baked on brake dust.

So, need something stronger. Any suggestions?

I ve had good results with AG 'Clean wheels' its nasty stuff though and I tend to wear those latex gloves when using it.

Halfords?

Daniel, Wonder Wheels has that *cringe* effect about it... its got a bad reputation of being a paint stripper hasn't it?

Sulphuric Acid...

Nah lol, I took my rear wheels off and it was covered with burnt on dust. I tried WD40, didnt do much. Tried AG custom wheel cleaner, didnt do much either. So i just got as much as i could off and clayed the rest. Came up OK, but still got a lot on.

Think im going to try the AG clean wheels as its stronger than the custome wheel cleaner stuff.

  Shed.
Tardis will probably remove it. if it doesnt.

Meguirs Wheel Brightener will. Apply, leave for 30 secs. Wash thoroughly.

just found some info

It is a concentrated wheel cleaner which requires diluting dpending on the task to hand. It can be cut as far as 10:1 on delecate alloys, with a normal dilution ratio of 4:1 for general purpose use. On especially bad or burnt on deposits it can be used at 2:1 or even 1:1.

  A well built VW
Megs WB will do the job but have to buy in big quantities im sure if you where to split a gallon down you could sell it off to members and recoup some costs

Off the shelf stuff CG Grim Reaper or Chemical Guys Wheel & Rim Cleaner

You tried a bit of clay on them ?

AG Clean Wheels or Wonder Wheels will both shift most things, but will dull the finish so prepare to have to polish after. Try either cut with water first and see if they are strong enough before cracking them out at full in the bottle strength.

fubar - two things i use - and have had good results!! stardrops which is only 75p and white spirts which can be had for £1.00 LOL ;)

imagine you wheels... with a thick layer of black crust and streaks in the corners of each spoke ;)

I've got professional advice on how to fix them, so should be mint by the end of the week :D

Hope you polish and protect them again after using white spirit.

Wheels are just painted like your body work hence I treat them in the same way, wash, polish, seal, wax. I am about as likely to wipe white spirit all over them in the same way as I am as likely to rub it over the body work.

If they can not be corrected with either a mild degreaser, clay or a wheel type acid then they are like nothing I have ever seen before !

cause i seal them afterwards! :)

For a man that seals the bottom of his car I would expect nothing less! ;)

Isn't white spirit similar to thinners though, which bodyshops use to remove paint from cars? Could be wrong but I would be careful Paul!

  Broken Diesel Megane :(
autosmart tardis ftw! bought some from Polished Bliss on sunday. use it neat on the car, wheels anything and you can see the crap running off. i even tried it on a few bugs, but to no effect :(

and 5 litres does not go far. i used about 2 litres on my car, which wasnt exactly bad.

Does tardis dissolve brake dust then ?

yes, i was using it on my wheels. not sure about if its caked on, but on my wheels i just sprayed it on all the wheels, then went back to first one, agitated a little and sprayed off.

you would have to give it some to remove any paint.. never removed any paint in 10 years of using the stuff!! only if you want it to remove paint!! ;)

I only thought it might as when I took my car to the bodyshop ages ago to look at my front bit that had been sprayed badly before I purchased it, he literally wiped some thinners over it with a cloth and the paint came off (much to my horror!!!) - I just thought white spirit and thinners were kind of similar substances? But I will take your word on it though, although probably won't be using it myself for the immediate future! ;)

its is kind of but its not very harsh!! everyone is scared of it!! ive used it neat on panels (when removing sticky pads from number plates) polished the area up after and its comes up like new!!

A very versitile under rated product! if you listern to everone on D/W or on here! they only mention products that cost a arm and a leg!! there a lot to be said for stardrops and white spirits!!!! had cleaned up many things im time :) and im fussy!!!

Yeah I agree Paul some people just buy things because they are expensive and assume they are good, I will happilly buy cheap if I can if the results are good, but just not really ever really needed to use white spirits, use clay/ wheel acid on wheels if they are bad, or glue and tar remover for...glue and tar! But thinking about it, that smells kind of like white spirit too so probably a fairly similar kind of distilate in there?

Autosmart Tardis is really good stuff but it's essentially just white spirit slightly watered down with a couple of other solvents.

i bet you a lot of these things are related!! i took my wheels off last week and had some staining! in the inner wheel - in the grooves of the rear of the wheel - nothing would touch it apart from white spirts!! its a lot less harsh than wonder wheels or wheel cleaner by autoglym - those products really are like paint striper!! - White spirts cost 1.00 and has so many uses! a spash of SRP afterwords and it will be more than fine! EGP if you really need to ;)

Yeah I suppose wheel acid is fairly strong acid isn't it, not the kindest substance! I was just under the impression white spirit might disolve the clearcoat or something but I'll take your word on it mate!
