Wheel Cleaner

  Turbos.
I did a track day a couple of weeks ago and have left the car since standing on the drive. I attempted to clean the wheels with two different types of wheel cleaner, Turtle Wax and Superguard that was a foamy one.

Anywho, despite having a good go at them i still have a residue firmly stuck on the wheels. I got melted brake pad desposits (Ferodo DS2500s) off ok but there is just a streaky film of grey that i can't shift.

Can you recommend a more manly wheel cleaner, and perhaps any brushes etc. that are good?

Errr...Brakedust is nasty stuff and i doubt APC or such like would remove. Off the shelf...Try muckoff/Wonderwheels both are strong. But wheels will need sealed after... If you want stuff in bulk for future, try Megs wheel brightener/ Autosmart tardis...Give Polishbliss a buzz...For solution and brushes.

Depends how bad it is mate. For general heavy shite i use APC, for a general wash i just use shampoo.

On the other hand, if it is bad, try using clay, see if thatll shift some of it, and finally to an extreme point use Car plan wonder wheels, its acidic as f**k and i suggest you keep a bucket of soapy water handy and a good supply of water. make sure the wheels get a coat of polish and get sealed to make your life easier in the future.

other products you could try for severe cases would be Megs Wheel brightner.

Don't use wonderwheels...

It's all about Auto Glym Engine and Machine Cleaner. I've never seen my wheels come up so clean.

First time i used it was after the parade lap at RWS and my wheels were absolutley covered in cack from that and they came up a treat..

Autoglym Engine and Machine cleaner works well on normal levels of grime. On really stubborn stuff you will need to step up to something like Wonder Wheels and Polish and seal after.

Thanks for the tips, is Wonderwheels just one product or is it a particular one?

If that doesn't work i'll give Barry Scott's finest a go as its under the sink!

its only about 8 quid in shops, halfords do it and so do homebase, im sure a lot of other retailers do it too. youll only need the small one, theres more than plenty in there.

e/ as rich said, make sure you rinse VERY well, and give it a coat of polish after, use ag srp and if you can be arsed a coat of egp or 2 aswell.

machine cleaner is good, i used to use it, but i figured for the price it was costing me and the fact that it wasnt what i would call wax friendly it was time to look for somehting else.

also...might sound obvious but do not use wonderwheels if you have just driven the car...make sure the wheels are as cold as cold gets otherwise it will just stain the wheels and look even worse lol
