wheel question

why is it people say 17inch wheels slow your acceleration but if you look at mercs and other beasts they have at least 18inchs.new cars are coming out with bigger wheels and 0-60 times are the same or better.im not saying 17inchs are better for the clio but why do all fast cars run on huge wheels and not small ones?

Because modern cars are designed to run on those wheels. They would always have run them but for tyre manufacturers have only recently been able to manufacture at those sizes.

If you put 15" wheels on them though, theyd accelerate quicker. Handling-wise these modern cars are designed handle on those wheels, older cars arent.
