Where do you guys buy lower ball joints?

Hi all,

Bought a 2002 Renault Clio Sport 172 today, and experiencing very slight 'knock' under hard acceleration, and letting off, in lower gears.

Done plenty of searches, and apparently it's the lower ball joints that a common fault.

I've search the bay, and noticed 2.0 16v 172 ones are different to all the other models.

I've found them that £33 each, is this about the going rate? Any particular ones to avoid etc?

I've just had a look at work and we dont list any for the 2.0's for some reason, see if you can get a part number and i'll see what i can find out!

also the nocking could be the dog bone mount on the engine, that fails on the sports and causes knocking

On the symptoms you describe I doubt its the ball joints. It sounds more like a worn engine mount or 1 that needs adjusting.

Ahhh right, thanks for both of your replies, so it maybe an engine mount and apparently the manifold knocking?

Or the dog-something-or-other mount?

Why not get it checked out instead of guessing and wasting money on parts you dont need. Plenty of specialists around.

try engine mounts easy to see if the dog has gone underneath just lever ti forward and look for broken rubber, try jacking front up and try to turn wheel while steering lock is on, shouldnt be any movement left-right or up and down
