Could this be the alarm switch above your right headlight ?
As the wee black bit above it looks like the prong type switches they use to determine whether the bonnet is opened or closed.
The only difference with yours is the prong/rod is missing that usually moves in and out if you push it down and release it.
This is what tells the alarm system whether the bonnet is opened or closed (these as usually fitted near the battery)
One way to confirm if it is a broken prong switch is to look behind the slam panel and right headlight and see if theres any wiring going to that area or check to see if there is any wiring loose.
Heres the type of switch i though was broken on your car but in this pic it has a chrome surround.
The alarm bonnet switch on this Rs Clio is different to the type of switch one i posted above as the type and look of the switch will vary from system to system i guess.
Imports usually have no window etchings, alarm, and locking nuts etc.
Which may explain why some have different types of alarm systems compared to other Rs Clios as imports usually have aftermarket alarms if lucky

I guess you could try, but they might not know what your talking about unless you have a part number :rasp:
Even try ebay, Maplin or Halfrauds.
The prong or switch may have been removed to cancel out alarm problems with wiring going to it etc but i guess you'll find that out when you fit a new one
I haven't seen the wiring but going by the picures i've seen there is only one terminal on the switch which i guess the positive wire goes to connected by a spade connector and the earth wire grounds/earths itself somewhere on the cars chassis/bodywork in the engine bay.
Unless the screw that holds the switch to the body earths somehow as i noticed that where the screw goes in the one in the ebay link there is metalk that would contact the screw head and create an earth contact
If you don't know what wire is what a multimeter may help
That look alright, although i'd maybe look for one with a smaller plobe/plunger as that one is a bit on the long side looks wise although it'd probably work.

Factory/dealer fit alarm is a UK option, Parallel imports didn't have them

I'd be suprised if they can find it on the system without a part number which the switch will no doubt not have on it as its part of the alarm kit.
But i guess theres no harm in trying them.
Failing that try halfrauds in there electrical section, maplin and ebay who may work out cheaper
After all its just a standard 12volt plunger door shut/bonnet shut switch your after...
Heres a quick few words on how the plunger switch works.
Plunger activated Alarm Swirches When the plunger is pushed in (bonnet closed), the electrical contacts are closed.
When the plunger is released(bonnet opened or prised open), the electrical contacts open setting off the alarm.
The same switches are found on the doors and boot to let the alarm know when doors and the boot are opened and to enable the boot and inerior lights to switch on.

A local scrap yard may be of help to to keep costs down
mwn11, cant really see as the pic as so close. would you take one slightly further away. yours looks different to mine and i have a 182. Though I rang renault and they told me most 182s will be different due to what they had in stock when the car went to import centre and fitted alarms.
