where to find XP key on my computer?

Recently installed XP.

I had to ring microsoft to get it authorised as the key i had didn't work and they gave me a key to tap in.

Really i should have written it down... but i didn't. Is it on my computer anywhere?

Just ran that^^^

Gives me the same key i had with my XP Cd, but i still had to ring microsoft to get it authorised.

Maybe i'll just have to do the same.

Do you think microsoft gave me not a key, but just authrised my copy of XP with a different code?

What MS gave you Seb wasn't a key it was just an authorisation code. Your key stays the same.

Your CD-Key auto generates itself a "authrosation ID" everytime you go to install it.

This is what you'd give the guys down the phone - usually 48digits i think?

Just ring them everytime, say its on only installed on 1 computer, say you made a big hardware change.



i think the file you have to delete to create a new installation ID is something like opa.ll - can't remember 100% now
