Wheres best to go for a new PC

  Inferno 182
Hi, Im thinking about getting a new PC but Im unsure where to go. Anyone know of decent sites that are doing good deals online or a local shop in the Wolverhampton/Dudley area?

Id use the PC for:
DVD decoding
Video editing
Photoshop
Internet
gaming

Should I go for a Pentium or AMD? ATI or Nvidia?

My Current spec is
AMD Athlon 2600+
ATI 9500 soft mod 8 pipelines
1500mb DDR 333
250gb ATA
120gb ATA
19" Digimate TFT
pioneer 108
dvd rom

Ill give this pc to my parents but Ill proably keep the monior.

I think I might try to stick to a budget of £600 if I can ;)

Cheers

Jason

you're best off buying everything seperate.

but if you are either lazy, or a thicko, and don't know how to build a comp (;)) then they also do full systems.....

Agreed. Build your own mate. Dont end up getting some s**t build from the like of mesh of someone, the only people that build good PCs are Vadim Computers.

My mate bought a Mesh, had 2x 300GB hd's and one now dosnt work as it got two hot! there are no fans for them etc.

Sorry mate have to disagree there, Mesh make some pretty good systems. fair enough your mate's has f**ked up but that could be down to the parts rather than mesh themselves. Harddrive's don't really need fan's as long as the case has enough cooling then there's no problem. 6 people in my office have had systems from them in the past year with no problems, They always get good reviews in computer mags

thats the thing the cases are s**t, no front fann, I think it had a 80mm at the back and a 80 on the side. The case is tiny for the components, he has a fx62 6800GT sli etc the cooling just isnt up to the job.

Building your own thou is the best way ;)

I'd go for Pentium over AMD if you doing video and photo editting.

Try and find a system that is inside budget and as higher spec as possible. Then try and price the components from online stores for a self build. If the self build is cheaper then go for that!

Cheers guys Ill take a look at the links youve posted later.

Im pretty sure I could build my own sytem so I may give that a go. Its just that the processors have changed so much since I last bought a PC its a mine field out there. Im unsure which brand to go for. AMD or Pentium? AT or Nvidia?

I think you have a pretty phat computer to do what you need.

Do you really need a new one?

Mesh do ok ones.

Overclockers, good for looking at stuff, way too expensive.

ebuyer, dabs for parts.

Buy a mag, they will show you the best combinations.

My computers over 6 years old and I`ve had 2 hard drives crash out on me and not load up in the last month. The one drive is brand new. I ended up formating the computer again and reinstalling all my software.

When I switched the computer on I got a black screen that said

Corrupt or missing
\windows\system32\config\system

I just think buy a new computer and be done with it:)
