I don't need stuff like monitor etc only the PC side of things. I have had to inculde new HD, CD ROM and PSU as i will need to keep my other PC online incase of any mishaps.

To be hoenst i have gone over budget a bit, but hey ho.

The PC would be used for surfing, music storage and a few old skoolgames like max payne 2 etc. I want to be able to keep this comp for the next 4 years so hopefully i can update it a bit to keep it chugging along.

Plus it will be my first self build!! eek!

opininos please! :)

Hey, looks like a good build. If you want it to be really fututre proof thou you should go for the AM2 boards as all AMDs new chips will be AM2, there not much different in price too.

Im not sure about this, but I would try and put mobo and graphics 2gether, eg, ati board with x800, rather than a sli board with Ati. If you want that board you should go for a card with sli, then in the future just add anutha to make it sli.

OCUK have a deal on for 7900GS cards £99+vat and X1900XT for £149+vat, Also the best stepping Intel Conroe 6300 CPU's for only about £30 more than the Athlon X2 you quoted

Gotta agree there, Socket 939 will be going out soon and its best to keep brands together for graphics.

Seb wanted to build his machine on an extreme budget. Socket 939 was the cheapest choice for mobo and CPU. Considering he intends to keep the base ingredients for 3 or 4 years, the future proofing element was moot. Also it means he can use cheaper DDR memory and not DDR2, but he still upgrades to PCIE and so he can get a new gfx card in a couple of years just to bump up performance mid term.

Basically, socket 939 works out a little cheaper in all aspects of the build, and since extreme budget with good performance was his aim, I reckon he's going to build a pretty kick as 939 machine :approve:

well, when AM2 comes out - most of us will need new CPU, New Ram and new GPU - what a fookin joke! are we made of money?

AM2 is already 'out' and has been for some time. If you want to upgrade to it you'll also need a new motherboard, not just CPU and memory. You wont need a new graphics card simply to upgrade to AM2, so long as your existing card is PCIE.
