which clio sport?..

  clio 1.2 16v
after succesful quotes on insurance looks like i can get a sport..

but which one..

either a phase 1 (arouns 2k) or the phase 2 172 (around £4500) ?..

What u rekon what do u think would be the best option ??..x

  Monaco RS Clio 172
ph2 all day long but that's just my opinion because I have one.

if you want a raw fun sport defo go for the cup, but don't forget the ff with all the toys is not much more money second hand buy and you can reduce it's weight significantly to near it to a cup and still end up with all the toys so imo.. defo the best one
:)

get monaco blue!!!

  RB 200 Cup!
ive had a ph1 and a ph2 - ph1 was slightly more fun but the ph2 had a s**t load more kits (cruise control, climate etc etc)

How about the PH1 Exclusive in the "Ebay links" section on here, Looks to be a good one and a bit of a rare find.

I wouldn't go for a ph1 mainly do the front lights, bonnet and dash on/in them.

Best bet is have a drive of one really and see which you prefer.

Although another consideration/plus for the ph1 is that it will depreciate less than a ph2, especially if you bought as expensive ph 2 172 for £4,500. No doubt in a year or so your £4,500 ph2 172 will be worth £3,500 this may not bother you as you intend to keep it for a while but if you don't it would be on my mind.

i know this is semi off topic but i got my 182 8 month ago with 23k on it for 7grand although it was up for 8 grand. now ive worked out with current climate its worth about 5 n half grand with extra 10k milage. its all poo!!

  clio 1.2 16v
is there a massive leap in performance between an 172 and a 182 << insurance on a 182 wud be alot more i wud of thort..x

  clio 1.2 16v
is a leon fr alot faster than an clio 172 or a clio 182 ??.. or are the clios faster and alot better on the bends ?//

  182/Bora V5/S1 RS Turbo
the leon 1.8t is prob like for like on straight but crap on corners just like mk4 golf. thing is with the 1.8t it can be tuned heavily. unfortunately the clio dont have a blower-although it can be added but reliability is out the window. i had a tuned 150bhp diesel golf that had 187bhp. superb on straight but scary thru bends. i then got a v6 4 motion bora which is fully independant suspention........completely different car and good for sideways fun in the wet but very sticky at the same time. mucho reccomended!

insurance for me on a 172 and 182 were identical. TBH i doubt there is much between the 172 and 182 performance wise. 182 is about 0.4 of a second quicker to 60...wow try and count 0.4 of a second :)

182 with cup packs will be slightly more nimble when your having a play however 172 is prob comfier day to day due to the softer suspension

Where did u get your quotes from mate, i'm hoping to get a decent quote when i'm 19.

If you can afford FC insurance get ph2 if u can only afford tpft get ph1 imo

Bloody hell, the 182 is 0.4 seconds quicker to 60 than a 172? I didn't think it was by that much - for only 10PS.

I paid £6k for an 05 182 (38k miles) last week which I thought was a good price. Now seen them going for £5.5k and less. Not really a big problem for me as I intend keeping it 2+years and only do about 6k miles a year but prices do seem to have taken a major hit lately (although dealers are still adevrtising 182's for £7k+. Surely these can't sell??)

it might not be that quick, i know its some stupidly low figure around that area. in other words next to nothing in it between the 2 cars

I went to a dealers a few weeks ago and they had a 2004 182 with 25k on the clocks and wanted 8k (!!!) for it.

The guy thought is was genuinley worth that to.

To be honest I only went to the local Renault dealer to have a nose around one, and this particular model had 2 wheels dark grey and 2 light grey.

Still makes me chuckle.

Thats quite common. Look on autotrader/ ebay and you'll find quite a few dealers with 182's up for £8k+. The best I saw was an 05 182 up for £8995!!!

Ph1 172.
In todays financial climate I wouldn't want £5k+ tied up in a french hot hatch.
£3k will get you a rotter with high miles, in my experience your looking at £2.8-3k for anything worth having add £500 onto that for the rarer colours.
In terms of the ph2's yes you can get a non-enthusiast owned 'used example' for £3.5k however it will be on circa 70k without a belt change.
For a mint Monaco on under 60k with the belts done you are looking at £4k+
Obviously theres always expceptions to the rule and you may find people can't meet their loan repayments/ mortgage gone up and due to the fact the markets saturated sell theirs on for peanuts, hence a few people pick up bargains.
A decent 182 can be had for £6k.

I've had a ph 2 172ff, ph2 172 cup and a ph2 182ff, id pick the cup over any off them, dont worry about luxuries, the cup is the way to go without a doubt, ive got rid off my 182 and im back on the hunt for another cup, after i've saved enough....

The newer the better!

THis doesnt apply with Renault tbh, you either get a good one or one that was made on a friday afternoon. My Clio 172 will be 8 years old in March 2009. On the last MOT it failed on a cracked coil spring (which lets face it is wear and tear due to the nature of our roads in Britain)

Ive heard some horror stories about 197's needing new clutches and re-mapping ECU's and so on (im not saying my 172 is any more reliable than new 197s to any extent)

You could call it luck with cars not low mileage and how shiny it is tbh
