Which Coilover

  Clio 172 PH2 (Y Reg)
Right then Ladies and Gentlemen!!

The time has come for me to decide which Coilover option to go for?

I have just bought some Speedline 2118's in 15" x 7" and I want to spend around the £700 - £800 mark for coilovers!

I have the money to spend now so what is the best for this price please advice!!

Kind regards
Your new Clio friend Dave!!!

P.S. cant be arsed to look on the other Threads to lazy, cheers

Does the budget include fitting/set-up? Not gonna get H&R's in that price if you need them fitting. H&R's are very good (by reputation), I'm getting AST's, slightly more expensive than H&R's, but adjustable damping, and the only suspension for clio's (IIRC) with a rear coilover.

The ones Ktec sell for 400quid (ish) are pretty good there basicly rebranded KW's or just get KW varient 2's for around 800.

H&R's seem popular

many say avoid Gaz but several people on here have them and say they arent that bad

How much are AST's?? And are they more road or track focused?
800+vat. They are adjustable, and they have a choice of spring rates, so you can have them set up to your liking. I think there may be the chance of a group buy.

what rates you having squire?
Not 100% sure. Going over to Dans next week to try out his, he's running
450lb front, 400lb rear. Getting them fitted next thursday. Exhaust (ktec stealth) goes on at the weekend (you may get a phone call when I get stuck!). Seats, still undecided. Might just go for one suzuka, will look cack, but not really bothered.

Ive got gaz coilovers on me 172 and a think there good, never had h&r's or other more expensive ones so carnt compare them but it handles better than standard and a had it on track sunday, never once understeered and only when me tyres got sticky did the back start to slide ever so slightly so personally a would reccomend them but everyones got there own opinion, some rate gaz, some hate them

^^ Since ive changed to 15's with 205 tyres, it feels a lot better. But Gaz coileys and 16's with 195/45's was terrible. Still cant seem to find a balance either, set soft and the back end bottoms out over bumps really easy and set hard its twitchy as hell. Seem to get massve understeer too, cant seem to find a happy medium.

Yeah took me a while to get them set how a wanted, started at the softest setting and just gradually adjusted it stiffer until a got to a point where it felt to stiff and just went back to the setting before. A dont go on any country roads so if a did a may find a get bounced all over the place but for normal road/track use mines fine

Yea i used that method too, i found the best setting but its still not great. Might get on top gaz and get some springs made with a lower rate.

I did have 280lb front and 250lb rear to start with and got on very well with it. I wanted something that would work better on track tho so opted for 450lb front and 400lb rears. We werent initially sure on how this would be for road use as they are the same spring rates that they use on an E46 M3 AST upgrade!!! Anyway, he fitted them and even tho the car is pretty firm, it has massively transformed the cars steering, steering weight and turn in. They is no situation in which the car was better on the softer spring weights other than obviously the ride comfort. As they have the adjustable side to them i have found that i have it on pretty much the softest they can be for road. So overall im completely happy with them now and am just waiting for the solid top mounts to come in as AST are currently making them :)
