which gearbox??

need a new gear box and just called up a salvage yard, they saying theres 2 boxs for the 172. how do i tell which i need ?? i have a phase 2 172

You need to JC5 130 box

The cups and ph1's have the JC5 129

mk1 172 - JC5 089 IIRC
mk2 172 - some had JC5129 or JC5 130's in the later 53plate cars
mk2 172 cup - JC5 129 with speedo drive
mk2 182 - JC5 130

Mines an early mk2 and it has a ph1/ph2 weird combination.

check to see if yours has a speedo drive coming out the top of it
