Original imo.

Not sure if a head is needed to be honest, I haven't decided yet!

Anyway, as mentioned the Manfrotto 676B is what I use and feels very solid (£30). I have the Manfrotto 234RC Monopod QR Tilt Top Head (£25), I guess it's useful, but I could live without it.

No need to spend a fortune on a monopod though.

On a general note, they feel like they are hindering you at first, but once you get used to them the added sharpness they bring to your pics is amazing. I did a comparison at Avon Rise (Castle Combe, approx 15ft away from a 150mph straight) and the difference was amazing.

Giottos....way better than manfrotto
Giotto's Pro Carbon Monopod Series MM 9980 is what we use at work.

manfrotto are very brittle...and there after sales are sh1T
When ever something breaks they blame it on user error....not the fact that the casting and design is over 2 decades old

Giottos MM9800 = £175

Manfrotto 676B = £30

We're talking fairly light non-professional use here! For what it's worth it was the photographers at Castle Combe who recommended Manfrotto to me, virtually all of them had been using the same one for years with no problems (and I'm talking events every single weekend between March and October), everybody said not to bother spending too much on one.

So you can buy 5-6 Manfrottos for the price of one Giotto.

As he said its light amateur use. IMO its like me reccomended a £3K HP server with Server 2003 as a computer in a one person business. Sure its better but its overkill

snobbery aside giottos kit is so strong, self serviceable.
manfrotto bits just snap!
I am a photographer yes. ....and our kit gets hammered day in day out.

ha ha ha ha.....braun and no brains!
We have a lot of problems with manfrotto kit recently breaking on us, hence why I advised on GIOTTOS.

Manfrotto arrived today and to be honest, its not all that. Being exchanged for Giotto aluminim one with built in head :)

LOL just mean that the sort of environments you must be in lead to slips, falls and general battering of equipment

What was wrong with it JJ surely its just a pole LOL

^^

I got the 680b, i was after something a little lighter, but having looked at the giotto one, its even heavier (should have looked more closely at specs!). I have PM'd you about a pic of 676b & head!
