Which of these 172 engines

  Ph1

Got the chance of 2 172 engines for very cheap money.

The first one is from a mk2 with 15000 miles on the clock and the second one is a Cup with only 13 hundred miles but has a ripped open sump .....there both crashed damaged cars

Which one should i choose ??? Cup with low miles but with damaged sump or 172 ok but with more miles ???

I plan to strip the good bits off [ cams - head - manifold - etc etc ] moddify them and stick them onto my mik 1 172. I shouldnt have any problems should i ?? The parts will be a straight swap ??

Personally, I would go for the 172 engine. 15000 miles is nothing anyway and if the engine is in good shape then why buy a damaged one IMHO.

id go for the 172 lump too, 15k is normally just starting to run in nicely you run the risk of an engine full of swarf and debris with the cup engine

15k on a 172 engine is nothing there strong, 15k is just beded in.

The Cup engine is likly to have other problems.

The bits are a straight swop even just remember that the Mk2 Clios have electric throttles etc but the bits your modyifying are the same.

The Cup engine was damaged on impact though. theres just about a inch size hole in the sump where it must have hit a rock.

I got the chrome door handles off it for a tenner so im gonna stick them on my mk1 when i get time

stinking hot engine dumps oil out and the temp is going to drop quickly so even if there is no swarf or debris anywhere the engine may have other issues

I cracked my sump and they discovered metal fillings had gone through the engine from the debris. i got a new engine under insurance.

go for the 172 one.
