  m-tec bmw 325 ci spo
went to renault today to get some oil but they said they dont sell it but i need to buy 5-40w oil so off i went to halfords but its diesel oil?? is that ok to use renault says it is but im not to sure

  Lionel Richie
halfords sell all sorts, mobil 1 0w40, castrol 0w40 have you not got a small local motorfactor place nearby?

yeh theres a few but no one with 5 40 fully syn oil though what does the 5 mean and whats the difference if i use 0

  Lionel Richie
the first number refers to the viscosity at 0degC

10 is thickest
5 in the middle
0 thinest (ie can go to a lower temp, something like -20degC)

40 is the vicosity at 100degC, so they're all the same when hot

ahh right i see so the first number dosent really matter then ? and 0 or 5 would be the best

  Lionel Richie
yeah but 10 is safe down to like -10degC, so hardly an issue

do you want the part number so you can order the proper stuff from renault?

renault said they wont do it and didnt give me an answer im goin to have a look round see if i can find this 5-40 oil if not ill pm you for the part number and go to a different renault garage thanks for your help mate

Give Total Butler a ring matey, 24 litres of Elf Excellium for £70 posted, you need around 5 litres or just under per oil change in the 172/182, so you'll get 4 oil changes and around 1 litre left to top up between changes...

So 4 oil changes including filter and sump washer are only costing around £20 in total...

Indeed...

Tho he's a from an area where there are many inbreds, you have to forgive him lol

LOL I'm from Inverness, the purest bred strain in all the realm. Might be different now since you Glasgow mongrels left your slums to come up here and pollute our bloodlines. lol

ben p is aweful worried about what I said. Perhaps an Angelworks insider can put his mind at ease.

I think you are quoting prices from a few years ago mate.

I took delivery of 24 litres of Elf Excellium LDX 5W-40 today. It now costs £99 including delivery.

lol Why would you buy a lumping big quantity that you may never use when you can buy a 5 litre can from a Reno showroom for £24?

Well it was December last year i ordered it matey, so maybe the prices have changed A LOT with inflation lol

Even at £99 for 24 litres is still pretty good, considering reno charge £40 for only 5 litres!!
