which rear shocks do I need?

  RS182 Full Fat
Hi.. appreciate any help. I have one leaking original renault rear shock. My car is a 182 full fat which has the cup suspension/hubs (don't really know what that means and wether that relates to the rear as well as the front). Also has Eibach Sportline Spring Kit although that doesn't matter i guess. I just want to order x1 rear shock (or pair if cheap enough) but don't want to order the wrong ones. I looked on ebay but those advertised all seemed to claim that the same shock fits all. However I notice on k-tec racing they do an Oe Rear Shock Absorbers and they seem to be a different price (different shock) for the 172 and 182. They seem expensive at £63 for x1 inc vat and shipping. Thanks for any help offered.

Hi mate, 172 cup and 182 cup rear shocks are the same part number now, these are slightly stiffer than normal 172/182 shocks.

The rear suspension is interchangeable, it's the fronts which are not on cup packed cars

Part number you need is 8200681125

I would also suggest replacing them both unless you have replaced the other one very recently.

I will be able to supply these (Genuine Renault) very shortly too ( www.sw-autos.uk ) for less than RRP

Hi, I wrote this previously for similar question...

Damper Part Numbers
172 front shocks - 8200681106
172 rear shocks - 8200662257
172 cup front shocks - 8200681108
172 cup rear shocks - 8200681125
182 front shocks - 8200681119
182 rear shocks - 8200681128
182 cup front shocks - 8200681109
182 cup rear shocks - 8200681125

172 std dampers are not the same as 172 cup dampers.

172 cup rear dampers and 182 cup rear dampers are the same!
172 cup front dampers and 182 cup dampers are internally the same, however have diff part numbers due to the hub bolt spacing being different.
54mm - 172 cup
60mm - 182 cup

From what I can remember the cup dampers are stiffer dampers (20% front, 10% rear) roughly

Hope that helps

@Tomotek what do I need to change to cup dampers then from a standard 172 setup?
confused the hell outta me that.

On the rear ANY 172 or 182 shock absorber will fit. If you want to fit rear cup shocks, then buy rear cup shocks and they will bolt straight on.

172 cup ones will fit 172's. 182 cup ones will fit 182's at the front. You can't put a 172 cup on a 182 and vice versa. This is due to the bolt spacing which is:

- 54mm for 172, 172 cups and 182 non cup/non full fat.
- 60mm bolt spacing is on the 182 full fat and trophy's.

All rear shocks will fit regardless of cup or not, but cup ones are preferred.

@LeeRS Hope that helps buddy.

Right I apologise for dragging this up again, but I can't make heads or tails of the last post. I have a 182 non cup (silver wheels, std spoiler, no splitter) and I have just had two 182 cup shocks (8200681109) delivered even though I asked for 172 cup shocks. Will these fit?

To clarify as I may have put that wrong slightly in the first 2 sentences as I meant 182 ff. I'm trying to recorrect my post, however it's easier if you read below.

On the fronts, 182 ff, cup, cup packs & trophy have a 60mm bolt spacing.
Ph1 172, ph2 172, 172 cup and 182 non cup packed (normal) have a bolt spacing of 54mm.

You can fit 172 cup ones onto 182 non cup/non full fat, but but they won't fit a cup packed 182. (Fronts)

All the different rears will fit all models, just depends whether you want them slightly stiffer.
