Which Speakers

  VaVa

Right then. I got my 172 last week, and whilst the standard ICE is not the worst Ive ever heard, its in need of an upgrade. Ive got me heart set on an Alpine CDA-9812 RB head unit, but I would like some advice on which speakers to buy to replace the factory ones. All I want to do is swap the door speakers and the rears. There are a couple of speakers that Ive got my eye on, but Im open to any suggestions (within reason). Also, if I get the Alpine HU I know that the seperate display will not work, but does it just stay blank?? Or display the date/time??

Thanks in advance

A few of us are running JBL GTO-526es and theyre a LOT better than the standard setup, can be had for under £40 a pair and fit straight into the original mounting points!

I have the same head unit as you in my mk2 172 and have fitted the jbl speakers and have found them to be very good. I would definately recommend a new parcel shelf, 6x9s and an amp though. The jbls are good but lacking in a bit of punch and a pair of 6x9s really makes a big difference. The display will show time and outside temp only and the renault remote stereo control will not work either. The alpine is well cool though!

it displays everything that does not require the stereo

what is your budget for the speakers??

I was under the impression you can get a lead to enable you keep the remote control.......

up to £100

Phoenix Gold R5.0 Components

retail around £100 - but you can get them for £85

lager - you can get a lead, but why? its a useless feature

Its not useless its really good imho, i use mine everyday

yes and no

the wiring is suitable, but you will have a cross over with your new components, which splits a full range signal into mid and treble, the OE cable is just split half way along the dash

get some new cabling in there, you will reap the benefits later

Hmmm. Not sure if I want to go to that much trouble. My original idea ( Im still fairly new to ICE BTW) was to swap the door speakers for some 5" co-axials, but Im worried that might leave me being bombarded with too much treble??
