Which sub and amp

To put it in a nutshell, i know very little about subs or amps and which to run with which etc
Im looking to spend about 400£ in total on 2 12" subs and 2 amps
and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on which subs and amps i should be looking at for that price range
Cheers in advance

you dont need two amps mate

get one amp thats 2ohm stable and run them both off it

for that kind of budget id get the Magnat Phantom monoblock, and 2 x Phoenix Gold Octane R 12" subs (single voice coil version)

thanks mate, ill look into them,
I was wanting the second amp more for looks purposes to go into an mdf build im having made, anyone else got any opinions?

to be honest, for £400 u aint gonna get 2 amps and 2 subs that are anything decent, think it would be better getting 1 sub and 1 amp, of better quality

Why spend 400 quid when you can get the Fusion deal in Halfords for 200!!!

I got one and it sounds pretty damn nice!!!

steer clear of hell-frauds mate

get yourself along to http://www.caraudiodirect.comwww.caraudiodirect.com - best prices online and loads of quality equipment. also hosted by CAD is http://www.talkaudio.co.uk/vbbwww.talkaudio.co.uk/vbb - a forum with a wealth of knowledge about everything car audio.

if i were you, id look at these subs - http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=2982&osCsid=1af308728c7484ed352c69bd2429b074http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=2982&osCsid=1af308728c7484ed352c69bd2429b074

the RE range are excellent, even at entry level. or else look at alpine here: http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=3673&osCsid=1af308728c7484ed352c69bd2429b074http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=3673&osCsid=1af308728c7484ed352c69bd2429b074

id stay away from the PG Octane R range though as theyre a bit all show and poor performance.

and if youre determined to have two amps, look at these http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=2755&tab=2&osCsid=1af308728c7484ed352c69bd2429b074http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=2755&tab=2&osCsid=1af308728c7484ed352c69bd2429b074

that should see you right to the tune of about £400. good luck :)

you ever actually heard them ?..........i have 2 Octane R subs, and they bang like f**k, and it isnt just noise either, its quite tight responsive bass

id like to hear a sub that costs £100 sound better

will if your anywhere local (North West) you can come listen to my setup if you want, see what you think

yes i have heard them, but i agree that sound quality is a very subjective thing. i was just giving my opinion and if it was my money i wouldnt spend it on the Octanes. Alot of the high end PG range is very good - i just feel that the Octanes are trding on the name a bit.

but it seems Will might be more interested in asthetics anyway, so maybe the octanes would be the way to go.

in your opinion, with a max budget of £100 RRP, tell me a sub which is better

also when you did hear one, what amp was powering it ?

i have 2 12" dual voice coil subs in a carpeted box for sale these are one of the best makes of subs u can buy

pm me if u are interested

as i said in my post mate - the RE subs or the Alpine subs that ive linked to would get my vote for best sub under £100. but as i said before, its personal opinion - just because i believe its better doesnt mean that you have to agree. youre obviously very pleased with the Octanes and thats great. but this is an open forum where people are encouraged to express their views, so dont have a tantrum because i dont agree that your sub is the best sub in the whole wide world for under £100!

im afraid i cant remember the exact date or time that i heard the Octane, but i can remember that it was being powered by a Magnat amp - dont know which - it wasnt in a ported box though, so obviously the box its in will affect the characteristics of the sub.

are yours sealed or ported?

  Skoda Fabia vRS

mine are sealed, and i just had to reply after you said they had poor performance, ive heard many different systems and i really dont find them poor in any way shape or form, especially for the price

previous to these i had an Alpine Type R 12", and these piss all over that from a great height

Planet Audio comps, Phoenix Gold Octane R amp, the 2 subs are runnin off an Octane R 8.0:1 monoblock
