Which type of rear speakers

  Skoda Fabia vRS

right, as i want a sub in the boot, an ive been readin all these threads about how 6x9s can distort with a sub........what speakers should i stick in the rear ?

ive been thinkin of gettin some 17cm coax in my shelf (MDF), however i might have to buy a new shelf as it currently has 6x9s in it....

or, is it better to get components front and rear ?......i very rarely carry passengers and to be honest i dont give a damn about the sound quality around them, its me thats important........

however i do prefer my sounds focusd slightly to the rear, helps me concentrate on the road better

my first step is a new head unit but i wanna know wot to do with the rear so i can have a look around at whats on offer...

brun dont go for ne rear speakers unless u really want them, if u put ne speakers on the rear shelf a sub can cancell them out, u could build some coax in to the rear door cards, but it would be better to get some really good components for the front and amp them, if u get a good set and have em set up right, then the soundstage will be right (if set up right) and u shouldnt be able to tell where the sound is, as long as the components arnt to harsh that will sound the best with a nice sub.

yea but the sub i get wont be some almighty beast, i dont want my bass like that, i like a lot of bass but not the amount that a £200 sub produces....

yeh but still, i dont think u will need rear fill, the clio is too small for rear fill, if u get a nice sounding set of components, and amp them and have a small 10" sub it will sound really good.

upgrade your fronts and get an amp for them, will sound a lot better than some rear speakers, i can guarentee that! :)

but i want rear speakers !!!

yes i will get some components in the front and amp em, however i wanna know what to do with the back....

actually it doesnt ruin the soundstage.... you just gotta know what your doing...

Depends what your version of ruining the soundstage is really? Do you think that when the rear speakers tend to over power the fronts is ruining the soundstage? or maybe when it feels like the sound is being dragged to the rear? or somet else?
Coz if you have a decent head unit & decent speakers/crossovers you can set it up perfectly for your driving position so it wont ruin the soundstage in the slightest. So to say rear fill ruins the soundstage is in a word "b****cks"
& its his choice if he wants it.... he asked a question... he wasnt asking to justify himself he was asking what was better for the rear.

& an answer to your question would be mate... I have 6*9s.... & I used to be hater of them myself, but after a little work, I made my own enclosures for the 6*9s, so not only did they not mess with the subwoofers air space, but the cones cant get damaged either.
& set up the delay between each speaker perfect for my driving position & the way I have it usually is mostly from the front but a bit from the rear so you get that surround sound effect going on!
You can do the same with all kindsa speakers in the shelf if you make enclosures for them! coaxials & componants included. Its up to you mate... if you have two sets of componants, it can sound too trebly! I would say if you really want rears... then go for coaxials, 6*9s or a set of dedicated mids (but they can & usually do cost alot!!)
But to get decent 6*9s that quite loud & good SQ cost alot! ive got pg tantrums & they are around £150 online! So if you wanted coaxials, I would say look at JL TR 6.5 & PG Tantrum 6.5" coaxials for around the 100 note mark!

hope that helps mate, any further questions, feel free to ask.

right thanks a LOT connor.......

based on the above replies, and the fact i cant be arsed to sort out the rear speakers into there own boxes..........would this setup be ok ?

2 x 12" JBL Subs in the boot
2 JBL Amps - 1 for each sub
Alpine/similar components up front
Possibly another of same JBL amp to run fronts
No rear speakers ?
however im still thinkin of puttin some coax in the rear shelf  lol

oh an please dont comment on the subs/amps........there a very good deal at work an ive heard em in a Clio an there what im lookin for.....

No worries mate, just happy to help

remember mate, you can get all that first... then have a listen, and if you still require rear fill you can add it in after mate! best way of doing it I reckon!

& from that set out, I really really recommend another JBL 2 channel amp (or 4 channel & bridge the speakers) to power the fronts, coz if they are just off the head unit, you will find that they wont go very loud but the subs will & the bass will start to drown out the vocals etc! So If you make the fronts active as well as that I reckon you will have a nice system mate. So change that possibility into a definate :D
& if you still need rear fill buy rear speakers then! dont have to rush & get it all done at once, some things are best done in stages to see if each componant makes an improvement on your system.

good luck mate :)
