Whining noise help

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
My 172 is making a weird noise, the best way to describe it is like a giant electric go kart, it’s like a high pitch whining that gets louder and faster the more you accelerate.

Now the autonater and idler have both been changed and according to my mechanic is it still making the noise and he can’t work out what is wrong.

I didn’t want to take it to Renault because they will be expensive but it seems I may have to now.

Has anyone got any other ideas or had this problem?

i think i may be having the same issue... is it likt a metallic whistling noise that comes from the engine when accerlerating hard?

  Dodgy one
It could be a tensioner, Is suspect your mechnic will have checked this first but you never know

take it to a renault specialist, better service at lower cost. No offence to the steelers :) Sounds like its belt related. does it do it would of gear when reved, or is it just when the gears are engaged?

The small idler between the bottom pulley and a/c compressor whine, 'tis quite common. I assume when you say alternator and idler you mean alternator and the tensioner?

Mine's doing similar at the moment. I took the aux belt off and started the car without it and no noise. But all the pulleys and tensioners seem fine. I even have a slight burning smell and smoke from the aux belt, but still can't figure it out!

Burning smell and SMOKE from the aux belt. Jesus man get it sorted before it snaps and takes the cambelt with it!

Don't worry it was already in pieces. Turned out the bolt that holds the alternator in place had come off. So the alternator had moved and released most of the belt tension so it was slipping. All sorted now.

Could this one be the manifold to cat gasket blowing, I've heard it sounds like this.

Does it sound like a metal sort of tapping noise? a bit like morse code when you get to near red line? Mine does this on occassion, no idea what it is.
