whining noise

mk1 172 21,000 milleage
just got back from a 3 hour drive and the car seems to be having a loud whining noise from the engine and the more you rev the higher the noise of the whining noise gets :( abit worried,
could it be one of the belts or something?

any suggestions please.

thanks

not sure iv read some old thread that i searched and some say its the altnerator.?

not sure if i should drive it and i take it to a garage to get it sorted asap.

its one of the cam belt pulleys. The bearings are made of butter.

mine did it, got the cambelt/aux belt replaced (was intending on it anyway @ 48k) and the whining went away.

2k on and the whining is back. From all the other RenaultSports ive heard, they all do it so i wouldnt worry :)

mine does it.
i took all the front off changed the alternator put it back together and its exactly the fookin same.
done another 3 k since then!
think it is the tensioner bearing on the aux belt or so i have been told on here.
might be air con pump bearing though!!!!

m8, i got that noise havent had time to sort it out, ive been told its one of the belts but i had the cambelt changed about 2k ago. it seems to be coming from the drivers front side of the engine??

When your driving does the nosie go louder when ur about to change gear hold the clutch down and listern, mine does, had it for a about a month hasnt broke yet so im guessing it aint that serious. Fingers crossed.

the noise gets louder as the rpm rises, by the looks of it, it could be a number of items which is a c*nt cos if i go for the wrong one to fix and it isnt its just going to cost and cost.

just got my stethoscope (sp?) out and had a listen to all the bearings.... localised the problem and isolated it to the aux belt jocky (idler) wheel...

unusual for them to go on such a low milage car.

having got it off the car, the bearing was rough as anything...

other than that a really nice condition car...
