Whining/whsitling/buzzing/farting

  172 sport
Ive just got a clio 172 and thought i would install my sound sytem, started yesterday got all the wiring laid down, wired up amps, wired HU, fitted new speakers upfront, when it came round to pluggin rca leads in it was fine, played ok...when i started engine im getting whining, whistiling and the rest, sometimes it goes a little bit quiter and other times goes louder it changes with the revs, ive tryed loads off different places to earth the amps from, ive even ran i direct earth from the battery with no luck....after much fiddling about im stumped, havent got a clue...ive fitted quite a few systems but never came across this....also after lots of popping and farting ive discovered that one of the drivers in the front speakers must has blown and only the tweeter is working!!anyone shed any light on this as its driving me mad havin no music and wires everywhere!

you ran the power cable and the speaker cable down the same side of the car?

yes i have.....i ve always done this,i read somewere on here that a guy always does that and had proof that it makes no difference if you run them seperately or same side

The fact that it only happens when the engine is running shows that its alt whine, you need to move the RCAs away from the power cable.

I've always ran mine down the same side and haven't had a problem but it depends how well the rca cables are shielded really.

thats a pretty good point......didnt think of that!!il try sticking another set on tomoz and see where i go from there.

should i move the speaker wires on other side aswell??

you could try getting a (i have just forgotten what they have called) im pretty sure its called a transistor you bolt it to the live on the alternator and to an earth and it suppresses the noise you get through the speakers.. they are fitted as standard to the live of the coil pack but another one can sometimes help,, vauxhalls are terrible for it

Try another RCA first, although i'd imagine thats the problem. I've got shielded rcas and I don't have any problems with alt whine even though the feed back to my front components are running along with them unshielded.

I know running them down the same side of the car is "wrong" but I can't be arsed with running them down opposite sides when it works.

thanks for replys.....as i was fiddling about im not sure if any bare wires touched...the HU turned off and came back on,i think this is what caused the front driver to blow...could this have damged HU leading onto these probs??

today i ripped out all wiring and rewired everything, i routed power down one side and audio andspeaker cables down other side of car...it has improved slightly but had not solved the problem.....its more of a whislting noise now....im at the end of ideas now....anyone else think of anything?

If you've ran all the cables correctly i.e. opposite sides of the car, away from other power cables & you've got a good earth etc etc then you'll need to install one of these in the RCA leads (perhaps 2 if you've got 2 pre-outs).

Job done!!!

I take it you havent tried what I suggested......trust me on this one!!!

i was in there today aswell buying new rca`s to rule that out....i might get one 2moz and give it a go...my mate seems to think my HU could be culprit

where have you earthed your amps? unplug your RCA's from the AMP and turn on the car and see if you still get the whining sound. if you do then you have a dodge earth. i think re-doing the earth is easier than re-laying your RCA's - just a thought. Also we are all assuming that you have run your power cables direct from the battery? what guage are you power and earth cables?

me personally wouldn't want to put a sticking plaster over the problem at the end of the day is still there. as i said thats my opinion only.
