Whining, wooshing and gushing!?

I have just been washing my car and decided to put the CD player on. Washing away I moved to the front end of the car and could hear some very strange noises coming from under the bonnet. I popped it open to have a better listen and I'm slightly confused/concerned. There was a loud, highpitched sound coming from around the battery and a wooshing/gushing sound, as if something was being pumped around the engine coming from the area of the cambelt. Now, I'm not the most technically minded and the car has just had a service and MOT as it's a new purchase (last Wednesday), but what are these noises and why!? There is also a rather distinct clicking noise when I turn the ignition off, thus killing the electrics.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Was the aux belt changed?

Well it had a major service according to the log book in 2006 at 45,286 miles, which is the 5 year period as opposed to the 72,000 miles for the cambelt. The aux. belt is supposed to be changed at the same time if i'm not mistaken?

You had the ignition on at a guess? High pitched whine is the throttle body, other noise will be fuel in the lines both normal.

^^ agreed. If the ignition is on but the engine not running, these are normal
