White plate on the back?

  fiesta 1.25
Would i get a £30 fine for having a white plate on the bac?if so why?I dont see the point. The rules are there because the police need to read number plates but it will be just as visable.

yeah you would. Police are really picky about the number plates. Have a look on the DVLA website. In England you have to have a white plate on the front and a yellow one on the rear - it's in the highway code, so yeah, it's the law.

  ST on the way...
Yep, cos it's not yellow.

I've got french plates on and was followed by coppers yesterday for about a mile or so, didn't pull me :S wtf lol

hmm i have a 3/4 on front but thats not that obviously.my car just looks alot better with a white plate and i dont see the point in it being illegal!

sorry to highjack the thread but are the black ones on the front legal

Yup. It has to be white on front and yellow on back unless it's a vintage car (1960s or earlier I think) and then they can get away with it black iirm (as in black with white writing). Check it out on the DVLA website for all the details.

If its anything other than a standard issue plate its illegal. Also you now need name and postcode of the supplier oF your plates, otherwise it will fail its MOT.

I agree, I think people do it because they think it looks cool, where as in reality it looks sh*t.
are you ever not moody on here?!every post is either really sarcastic or blunt.
Regarding the plates, they do look good on chris's car...it is a bit random and yes it is illegal....but its something different from the norm

Hmm, mine had its first MOT last month and my plates have a small black line border and the word Lexus and its badge written on them, and they are on a clio!;)

We have all sorts of styles of number plates available here. You pay the standard fee for the standard plates, and variously higher fees to the vehicle registration authorities for various styles and colours of "vanity plates" if you want them. Its a great idea. Voluntary taxation. If you want something special you pay extra according to how special you want it to be.

i still don't think it'll look good tbh. not having a go fella, just not my cuppa... and imo it would ruin the back of your car!

The reasons for the different colour plates (white front and yellow rear) are the levels of reflectiveness of each colour of plate. The front plate reflects light more to make oncoming cars more visible, and the rear (yellow) plate has less reflective qualities so as not to dazzle you when you are following a car in front.

Besides, as stated by several others, its the law.

^yeh i got away with it for 14 months....then bam, £30 fine:mad:

@ least u got away with it for 1 year and 4 months. One unlucky sod is bound to have put it on, then drive out of the drive way, down the road, and BAM £30 fine. in 2 minutes. lol

i hear that if you get caught with an illegal plate now, they have changed it to £1000 fine. someone might want to check this up but im pretty sure its true
still running my 3/4 front and 4/5 rear tho :)

They have to be white on the front and yellow on the back as it might confuse the fuzz as to which end of the car is which! :clown:

Probably because its something only jobsworth coppers would actually bother you stopping for. MAjority of the lads i work with said they wouldnt bother unless you were driving like an idiot. Ive got them on mine and pull into the nick and no one notices.
