I know fook all about engines, but sounds like head gasket, coolant and oil leak...

Not a cheap job, new engine would be cheaper.

I thought head but he says there is no other signs that the head has gone :S

He says there is deffo no coolent leek as thats staying level and he can't see an oil leak

From what i have read, it doesnt take much water in the oil to make it go creamy.

Ok... i thought it was wierd... and i have just asked again and it is the oil filler!!!

think we can safely say the head gasket is on its way out!!!
Lol, I was thinking fuel filler cap wtf :S

Has he only been using it for short journeys ??

its common on the 1.2 16v nothing to worry about, caused by too many short journeys and stop start.

a MASSIVE misconception. Mayo cover/film on the oilcap is very common. Specially with cars that dont do long journeys. Its where the oil splashes on the underside of the cap, and then condensation/fumes mixes with the oil and causes it to go white. So tell him not to worry.

Main signs of headgasket he should look out for are car overheating in traffic/up hill. Oil turned to a thick white/grey gunk, loss of coolant, or bubbles in the overflow bottle.

Normal on that engine, nowt to worry about atall.

Short journeys, bad rocker cover design and not being driven hard all add to it aswell.

EDIT- as Gtruk said above.
