Why cant people get my tracking right??

  Mazda Mx5 + Clio 172
Getting vexed now. Took my car (ph 2 172) to sort its tracking out (sterring wheel crooked to the left when driving straight) and they claim they have tracked it up perfectly but now after just 2 days the wheel is sitting crooked and the car feels very wobbly. WTF to do! Took it back and they wont do owt about it claiming that they had it perfect but it clearly isnt! Does tyre quality make a difference? Also noticed a drop in fuel economy.... what could that be about? Arrrrgh!:S:dapprove::mad:

maybe your steering arm ball joints are shot so its drifting out, if its bad you will notice your tire rubbing off. or if they have tracked it in and its fine and stayed that way, drive in a striaght line so steering whel is offset stop remove wheel and replace on spline straight and bolt back up.

There are two guys in mansfield who set up cars on a hawkeye lazer align system. they do camber/toe/caster/everything. The 4wd boys rate them a lot too and they certainly know there stuff.

May be worth going there so you can at least know you have had it set up properly.

I only got charged £45 aswell - They were working on my car for two hours getting it set up right LOL! Handles awesome now. I'm going back in 2 months (I get it set up every 6 month)

Boosh - do you have any contact details?

My cup is out slightly too - sits steering to one side to go straight
Not sure if its tyres or tracking but I don't know who I can trust to do it locally

There isn't anyone.

Everywhere I went I was told - Oooo I'm not touching that, its way too low... Or oooo We can't adjust camber here... Most of them dunno wtf they are on about unless its tracking you want doing.

These guys have a specially made ramp to get low cars on the lift lol

Alternatively you could contact mini valver and have him set it up with string, i'm sure he would do it you for some moolah.

  182
Got the exact same prob with my 182, just had it serviced and alignment done but steering wheel is slightly to the left when in a straight line but also pulls to the right but they said its normal? Had 3 people look at this and still not sorted!

The problem is theres more than just tracking which can cause it

If the tracking has been out in the past and unevenly worn the tyres - that can cause it

If you get tracking done by a good place with laser alignment who also look at camber/castor angles - then the tracking is fine

Try swapping rear wheels to front and see if there's any difference

I used align my car to find nearest place, just car clinic in Armley. Wheel still on the piss doesn't feel as good as it did on standard susp tbh. Charged me £95 and wont look at it again because "they did it perfectly so if it's out I've hit something"

c***s.

They look in the computer , and it tells them which toe to do, in or out. They get it wrong , way too often  Too much toe out will make your car "search" , going left to right, however bad the road is you're driving on.

I found , after going back again + again, telling them to do neutral toe or a LITTLE toe in made it track like nothing else , winner :approve:

Wightman - took it to Hiq Tyre Services, used them for quite a long time and they used to be REALLY good, they tracked my old clio up spot on. Not sure wtf is happening these days!
